Tenants – It’s getting worse unless you see both sides and write your MP

Tenants, your rents are getting more expensive. It’s getting worse for you unless you see both sides of the story and write to the MP’s.

The Green Party wants a 1% tax on All Landlords property. Because they say we’ve had rent increases of 6.6%. They estimate this will cost the average Landlord £1700, per property. Where is the money coming from? Are they nuts!

More Landlords have now finished their breakfast, ringing their solicitor to arrange eviction papers and ringing Estate Agents to put up for sale.

What if your Landlord hasn’t given you a rent increase? What if your Landlord looks after you? Gees, this is a sure-fire way of the Landlords who have looked after their tenants, now having to give them a rent increase they avoided before.

I thought I was hearing things when I heard the Green Party mention this tenant destroyer on the BBC news this morning at 0644 in. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/live/bbcone?rewindTo=current

More Landlords packing up now Green party – Well done. And we know what that means don’t we? Yes, you got it right, even less supply and more increased rents next year, because you’ve just made the remaining Landlords the king of the castle. And ever-increasing tenants – you’ve made their life more horrendous.

I’m not a politics man, but I did a little few minute digs this morning and it seems Green Party always like to clobber Landlords. Their policies sound great, but as we know, they just reduce supply, which puts up rents.
Let’s just hope for the tenant’s sake they don’t get in then. https://twitter.com/MickRobertsBoss/status/1451441189266337809?t=rhuceJmAEhe-jhOpDiWwZQ&s=19

A lot of their policies are just loony!
Luckily we have first past the post system in the U.K so no-one listens to them.

They have very little chance of ever becoming a government but I'm still getting out.
Buy, do up, sell is the way forward for me I think. No hassle with tenants or local councils, no being an unpaid ASBO or immigration officer who can be fined for not doing it, no being owed rent I haven't a hope in hell of ever seeing and will earn more per property than renting it out.
Just wish I'd realised sooner!

Who has had a rent increase of 6.6%? Most of my tenants haven't had an increase for years. Must put the rents up.

Dear Mick,

Please don't discount these loonies, remember the history behind the invoking of Section 24 mortgage interest restrictions. I suspect the government has more than its fair share of such civil servants and desperate chancellors.

Absolute Joke, like Landlords don’t pay enough tax !!! Especially Landlords who own in their personal names !!

Good point about not discounting them.

If we get a Hung Parliament the tail can often wag the dog.

Yet another example of 'out of touch' Henry's at the helm! It was obvious to everyone at the time, except policy makers, that the 2015 'hammer landlords' budget will lead to rent rises. This was without all the relentless red tape and regulation costs ever since! Then for good measure, add in tax incentives to encourage landlords over to holiday lets instead...one didn't need to be an expert to see where this would all go! Fewer rentals equal higher rents, simple! As with many seemingly vote winning new polices, it will all go full circle when housing shortages get to critical mass and the realisation families need long term housing...not holiday homes!

Thank goodness all u commented above are re-assuring us not in the know of the Green Party that they are in fact Loony. As I'd like think they are good people with the Climate etc., but wow they'd make some tenants homeless inadvertently.

Unfortunately the Conservatives and Labour have in the past listened to and often poached Green Party ideas! So their policies are still a concern!!

Re Martin Roberts on hung parliament this is happening in Scotland with Nicola Sturgeon hitching her wagon to the Greens and promising rent controls. According to the Scottish Assoc of Landlords supply of rentals on market has dropped by 80% in last 2 months and they are warning of a shortage of homes over the winter as a result of Landlords selling up and exiting the market. Another brilliant bit of Green policy!

When I advertise on Openrent now and get 30 plus applications for a house I explain to everyone I have to turn down that the current situation lack of rentals and high rents is due to the Governments anti Landlord policies driving out good Landlords. Where I receive a plea to allow someone to rent with a pet I explain about the Tenant Fees act and encourage them to contact our local MP. Mr Beadle does nothing regarding getting the Landlord's perspective into the public and tenants' eye. My experience is that tenants are unaware of what is happening in the PRS.

Is there a larger forum where Mick Roberts articles could be published and seen by a wider audience rather than just us Landlords?
