Hi Mark B

It means if you remain a 20% payer after the change is introduced you will not be affected.

However, if the total of your gross real income and your BTL finance costs is more than £43,000 then you will pay more tax.

The example from Megan Shaw of HMRC was posted on page 48 by syed shah:

http://www.property118.com/budget-2015-landlords-reactions/76164/comment-page-48/#comment-58439

It shows that someone with a real rental profit of £1,200 will pay £1,800 in extra tax, on top of the £240 that he would pay today, making a total of £2,040. This is 170% of the profit.

He is a basic rate payer today, but the change in the treatment of finance costs will turn him into a higher rate payer and make him poorer.

Hi Stewart

Well done, that was one of the sites I couldn’t leave a message on yesterday because I’m not a member.

The link you sent was to this site which is a bit daunting to newcomers with over 1,700 comments already posted.

It would be helpful to them if you also sent a link to the petition:

http://www.property118.com/restricting-finance-cost-relief-for-individual-landlords-petition/76936/

Its introduction explains the problems, and then readers can go to the petition site.

In my emails to landlords’ associations I asked the recipients to sign it and send it to their members, and anyone else they think might support us, and to ask them all to send it to five other people.

Have just had a good idea, I've just sent a text to myself with a little write up about the new landlord levy tax and a link to the petition.
Please sign the petition to stop the planned unfair tax to residential landlords of charging 20% tax on all interest that the landlord pays to their lender.
Mad George, Mad tax!
http://www.petition.parliament.uk/petitions/104880
I am now going to text that message to all of my contacts and whenever I am speaking with someone even if it's in a shop I'm going to see if I can get them to sign up.
I have also emailed my entire list of contacts and shared the petition link on facebook. I have emailed the NLA / RLA and the North West Landlords Association.
I think we should get texting as well. 170 tenants next on my list.
Give it 4 or 5 weeks and I say create a march in London.

Hi Chris

When I click on the link or cut and paste it I just get my gmail login. Is there another route into the Moneyweek Money Morning article?

I've sent emails to several Landlords I know, some letting agents, mortgage brokers, and accountants, asking them all to sign the petition, get their partners and colleagues to sign the petition and to pass on the email to anyone they know who are tenants, landlords, letting agents, estate agents, mortgage brokers, accountants, contractors, etc to ask them to sign the petition.
