I’d appreciate your thoughts because it seems to me that the only realistic hope for landlords teaching the two major political Parties a lesson is to vote Reform in the hope of a Labour / Reform coalition. Surely that would put the cat among the pigeons!
Reform appears to me to be the only UK political party happy to fight for landlords and lower rates of tax.
Am I missing something?
I found this on their website …
The UK population has grown by over 1.3 million in just 2 years. Yet only 425,000 homes have been built. The Office of National Statistics forecast the population to grow by nearly 7 million between 2021 and 2036, putting huge pressure on housing.
Mass immigration is the main factor in this. Other factors that have damaged housing supply are overly bureaucratic planning regulations that delay decisions and add huge cost.

Review the Planning System.
Fast track planning and tax incentives for development of brownfield sites, including unused offices and vacant high street properties. Review system of Section 106 Developer Contributions for infrastructure such as schools and surgeries to accelerate house building.

Reform Social Housing Law.
Prioritise local people and those who have paid into the system. In parts of the UK almost half of all social housing is occupied by someone born overseas. Foreign nationals must go to the back of the queue. Not the front.

Scrap the 2019 Tax Changes for Landlords.
The tax system should encourage smaller landlords into the rental markets. Not penalise them.

Abolish the Renters’ (Reform) Bill.
Existing legislation was adequate to address bad practices. Instead, we will boost the monitoring, appeals and enforcement process.

Incentivise Use of New Construction Technology.
Such as modular construction, and smart infrastructure.

More Homegrown Qualified Traders.
New apprenticeships and vocational courses will increase the supply of skilled, well-paid workers to replace cheap overseas labour.
Every day, landlords who want to influence policy and share real-world experience add their voice here. Your perspective helps keep the debate balanced.

In an ideal world Reform would get my vote.
However I cannot shoot myself in the foot and vote for Reform because I do not relish what Ms Rayner, John Mc Donnell, Sadiq Khan and others have in store for us if Labour win the election.

As in the last General election.
Who do you NOT want in power and vote accordingly.
But saying that Reform UK is the only party who has said they will reinstate s24 AND acknowledge the essential provision of property they provide in the rental market for both social tenants, one cannot call them tenants on benefits these days I suppose, and working professional tenants.

An 80 seat majority with Borris was most likely from tactical voting to keep Corbyn out.
My mother, a staunch Liberal, even voted Conservative to keep Corbyn out!

Reform stood down in the last election to allow the Conservatives to get a majority. They’re not going to do that this time!

I can’t vote Conservative after the tax hikes and pandering to the likes of Shelter and Generation Rent as well as their policy to destroy the small landlord sector.
I can’t vote Labour as their policies (and people) are preposterous.
I had intended to spoil my vote (first time ever) but after reading the Reform manifesto will definitely be voting for them. They won’t get in, but if enough of us do vote Reform, then the major parties will have to sit up and seriously consider their actions (not that they will, but that will hopefully be their downfall)

As it’s a forgone conclusion that Labour will have a landslide win I will be voting Reform as they are the only party talking sense and are on the side of landlords, and a party has to start somewhere so they need our support

Reply to the comment left by DPT at 30/05/2024 – 09:40I don’t understand why you would vote Labour when you know how bad they will be for landlords and the country. We are being asked to vote on policies, nothing else.
This Labour we are being asked to accept, versus the Labour of the Left, has no track record on which to judge it. We do know Starmer will say what is necessary to win power, and we also know he sloped his shoulders in the Savile and Pakistani grooming gangs cases in return for an extra special pension plan, which he doesn’t want anyone else to have.
Labour has ‘missions’ but no real policies, because they don’t want to be held to account at this stage. At least Reform has policies. What’s stopping you voting for those policies? Labour, Tory, Libdems believe they are the only Parties you should consider. Why? Forget who the
Party is.
