General Election 8th June – Who on earth do landlords vote for?

We are asking all landlords to complete this Poll.

Oops! We could not locate your form.

We are also extremely interested in your views so please post comments.

For example, you may well despise what the Conservative Government has done and you may well mistrust them but will any other party be better?

If landlords vote for minor parties might this hand a win to Labour?

Do you think a coalition Government is likely, and if so between which parties?

Which party would you least prefer to be elected and why?

Could not voting hand this election to Labour?

You should think before you post on your own site!

I suspect that Mrs May might be in for a shock!

Her core vote will stay., but Cameron only won last time because the Liberal Undemocrats were crushed.

Most of her MP's are really remainers, it was the voters that screwed it up for Cameron, he misjudged the population, despite project 'Fear'

Her BTL Landlords might consider a switch to UKIP.

I like UKIP because they speak plain English, realise that 2/3rds of the country can't even change a plug on a kettle and we need Grammar and technical schools to flourish.

If UKIP tell folks they want a grammar school in each town and want to make sure Brexit comes to mean Brexit.

But I urge no BTL Landlord to vote for the authors of S24.
Greens or Tory do not a Private BTL Rented Sector make.

I'll vote Conservative. As usual, it's not a vote for the best party, it's a vote for the least worst, given the limited range of viable options.

Well I'm between a rock and a hard place. Living in Manchester and on the verge of Landlord Licensing if Andy Burnham becomes Mayor, which is looking increasingly likely, I wouldn't vote Labour if they were the last party on earth, either locally or nationally. Rent caps, and other Labour controls would be bad news, but even though I have voted Conservative all my life, I cannot vote for the party who have destroyed the livelihoods of so many. I'm voting Lib Dem in the faint hope of a hung parliament that would at least punish the Tories somewhat.
I have already started selling my portfolio in any case. Sold one, and will be selling the rest over the coming months, bringing heartbreak and homelessness to yet more tenants who deserve better.

Hi Mark,
I also seriously hope you are wrong (no offence at all meant).
You might be interested in an article in - I think - yesterday's City a.m.: http://www.cityam.com/263078/electoral-annihilation-inevitable-real-battle-labours

In response to the general question, I think I will vote for an independent candidate or spoil my vote. I am in one of the safest Tory's seat in the country (in the last 25 years we had Lib-Dems once). My MP already knows that I would not be voting Conservative, hopefully none of our tenants will as well (they all had received a letter with explanation of their rent increase).
I was hoping to vote Lib-Dems (as a reluctant remainer), but someone on this forum advised they are against LLs too.
What a mess....

Hi Anthony. Sorry to hear about how bad this has been for you. I would check out your Lib Dem candidate before voting for them though as I don't believe Lib Dems are the friends of landlords. I think some people who don't know the history of Section 24 might even vote Green (for newer people here, Section 24 was a Green Party Manifesto promise that Osborne stole), others might vote Plaid Cymru who also are no friends of landlords. We also do not know that UKIP is either. We have no evidence of it. I think it is not just a matter of voting for whatever party, but also looking closely at the individual and whether they would vote against their party if push came to shove.

We have a shambolic group to pick from. All seem to want to rob the lower/ middle classes
I feel like I am living in a victoria era but with a modern twist.

I will vote UKIP but I am disappointed in the lack of direction regarding landlords they do seem to bebecoming Labour under a UKIP banner. I think Nigel should come back .
How can you vote for a government that has stabbed us in the back and will continue to do so if they remain. Do you want a country just run by large corporations and every bit of England in foriegn hands

As a lifelong Tory voter I trusted them implicitly to have policies which support those who work hard to provide for themselves and their families and who built up businesses throughout their lifetime to be able to support themselves into retirement needing no help from the state.

How wrong can you be? To say my trust has been betrayed and that I feel let down doesn't even cover it . . . .
So soon after they got into power last time did the Conservatives announce their plan for S24 - no mention in the manifesto - so not just disloyal to their core voters, but sneaky with it.

I would not vote Conservative again unless I felt they were taking a serious look at the effects of S24 on tenants, landlords and the PRS as a whole (as someone else said. even taking away the retroactive nature of it would be a start).

So who will get my vote?
At this moment I cannot say - I feel there is now no party which represents me and people like me . . I have 51 days to make my mind up and will be following the hype with interest.

Agree with Kathy completely. If Nigel had not run off we would have almost certainly voted UKIP but indeed the current UKIP rhetoric does sound traditional Labour as opposed to Marxist (Corbyn) and New Labour (Bliar). I feel nauseous at the prospect of having to vote Tory as the least dreadful option having voted for them my whole life and they then threaten my families very existence with their disgusiting disdain for landlords and tenants. Jury's out - I don't trust a single one of them but what to do to protect our family's livelliood ? Might see who the local UKIP person is. Sad state of affairs. Just come back from a lovely cruise around the Carribbean - a multitude of tax free opportunities presented themselves if we keep getting beaten around the head we might just sell up and jog on.

Hi Anne
It would be great if you could send your comments to Gavin Barwell, Philip Hammond and Theresa May via your MP.
