General Election 8th June – Who on earth do landlords vote for?

We are asking all landlords to complete this Poll.

Oops! We could not locate your form.

We are also extremely interested in your views so please post comments.

For example, you may well despise what the Conservative Government has done and you may well mistrust them but will any other party be better?

If landlords vote for minor parties might this hand a win to Labour?

Do you think a coalition Government is likely, and if so between which parties?

Which party would you least prefer to be elected and why?

Could not voting hand this election to Labour?

Although I am of course disgusted by clause 24, I still believe the Conservatives are the most viable government for the country as a whole. If they win a bigger majority in June, they will have much less need to adopt extremist anti landlord policies to placate Parliament and win the vote of the economic left, though I won't be holding my breath for a clause 24 u-turn anytime soon - I believe it's going to take a worsening housing crisis for the government to learn its lesson, just as the Irish government learned from a similar taxation policy.

In addition, because so much Parliamentary time will be taken up with Brexit and incorporating EU legislation, there will be much less time for anything else, so hopefully no new anti landlord policies.

I swore that I would never vote Tory again but I think Theresa May is doing a pretty good job and, like Monty, have some faith that she will do the sane thing and prevent the tenant nightmare that's about to unfold over the next few years. That is... take some corrective action on S24 etc to steady the ship after schoolboy Osborne's 'boy racer' approach to the economy. Also, at this stage, May and her team is the only one I would trust with Brexit. It seems to be going in the right direction, so I will be voting Tory. I wouldn't want to see any of the other party in No10 for the next few years; but if I don't see a change in the treatment of private landlords in this session I will not be voting Tory the next time around.

All the more reason to vote UKIP.

It was UKIP that forced the Conservatives to grant a referendum in the first place. (They are Tories with Union Jack undies on)

If they nobble Labours vote as the Labour Party plead for a marshmallow, pink pony and fairy dust Brexit, they can win a few seats.

The Liberal Undemocrats will pick up seats and damage the Tories with the solid remainers, who will threaten a second EU referendum, after Brexit.

Labour could lose to the Tories in marginal seats and then UKIP and the Lib Dems support would be required to form a Government.

There is no way UKIP would allow a soft Brexit, the Lib Undems only want a few ministers cars to replace their bicycles and to let Paddy Pantsdown on the Telly every Sunday.

If UKIP was supported by Landlords, they might realise that we are their power base.

As for the Greens, I drive a diesel van and suspect that Section 24 will be the tip of the iceberg for Landlords.

Labour will destroy BTL and divert LHA money into council housing.

Yes TM does come across quite well - reminds me of a proper Tory like Maggie ! However, I can't quite trust her yet as she was on the losing side (remainer) yet benefited from this becoming PM, we now have her changing her mind about the need for a General Election. Beware also she has come out publicly saying she will intervene when markets don't work - might she do this when rents start rocketing with rent controls ? Markets are markets and they work best when numptie politicians with no real world experience keep out of them.

Just sent this to our MP...

Please would you let my wife and I know why we should consider voting for you in the next general election restricting your answer to the two following issues which are crucially important to us :

1. You are a ‘remainer’ in contrast to your electorate who were substantially ‘leavers’.

2. You have defended the (misguided at best and disingenuous at worst) Conservative policy attacking private landlords that will ultimately cost us £50,000 per annum in additional taxes from no additional revenue. There is no evidence to support that this attack will assist first time buyers. In fact the evidence emerging is to the contrary. Home ownership aspirations will actually be further diminished as unchecked immigration along with other demographic issues continue to increase demand whilst supply is reduced from landlords being forced to sell – thus increasing rents, significantly.

Having been lifelong Tories this is the first time we have ever had to really think about who to vote for. Labour are now Marxist, Lib Dems are nothing, UKIP have no credible leader, SNP are delusional and the Conservatives are no longer conservative.

As it stands at the moment the only circumstance that we can conceive of voting for you is that you might be the least dreadful option. Might you be able to convince us otherwise ?

It seems there is no party that is landlord friendly. Therefore we should all vote unselfishly, for the party that we think at the present time is best for the economy, a good economy makes so much difference to all aspects of life. (selfishly, it even means that landlords are able to put up their rents) I can't imagine Jeremy Corbyn or Tim Farron as prime minister. I will vote conservative.

If I were her, I'd not respond knowing you've pretty much given your hand away voting for her as the least worst option. I don't know why you're not considering spoiling the paper, you don't *have* to settle for the best of a bad bunch.

Looking at the above poll results, I just cannot believe *any* BTL landlord is going to settle for a Conservative vote!

At the weekend I had my nieces over for the Easter weekend and we went to the seaside. Yesterday I woke up, spent a day in my office dealing with repairs, HB and chasing arrears before playing a game of squash at the local leisure centre, then drove to my out-of-town rural home (in my newly bought car), cooked dinner, watched Eastenders and spent half an hour in our hot tub before heading up to bed to browse the internet where I bought a discounted ski rucksack (now the end-of-season bargains are out) ready for my annual European jaunts in 2017/18, booked flights for my summer holiday and had a quick look at remortgage rates. Today I will do similar.

This is my world. And likely this will not be all that dissimilar from your day-to-day worlds too.

if you really, really think about it. I mean *really* think about it, ask yourself what is it that affects my ability to live in that world? All this talk of 'steadying the ship' and 'stability' is utter nonsense. You're spouting media rhetoric. Brexit will happen even if Corbyn is PM because there would be unprecedented riots if not. And on top of that, once TM/Con's are in power, they'll do what the hell they like anyway and you'll have no control. Better to try and control the world that does affect you directly. Vote against S.24 and don't blindly vote for the Conservatives.

I saw the following interesting tactical voting spreadsheet yesterday (to keep Brexit on track and the Conservatives in check):

**If you're in a Labour *safe* seat, vote UKIP (to improve their national vote share and spook the Labour party).

** If you're in a Labour *marginal* seat, vote Conservatives or UKIP -whichever has a better chance of unseating Labour (as a general rule, UKIP will have a better chance in the North and Wales whereas Conservatives will have a better chance in cities).

**If you're in a Conservative *safe* seat, vote UKIP (to improve their national vote share and let your Conservative MP know they can't swing too close to the centre).

**If you're in a Coservative *marginal* seat, vote Conservative (to make sure it doesn't swing to Labour).

**If you're in a Liberal Democrat seat that the Conservatives have a chance to take, vote Conservative. However, if there is a threat of a swing to Labour, vote Liberal Democrat to lock them out.

**If you're in an SNP seat, vote Conservative (as there are no SNP seats where Conservative is not the optimal tactical vote).

**If you're in a Paid Cymru seat, vote UKIP (for the same reasons as above: there are no Plaid Cymru seats where UKIP is not the optimal tactical vote).

**If you're in Clacton, vote Conservative (because sod wee Dougie Carswell)!

**If you're in Brighton Pavillion, move out of Brighton Pavillion!
