General Election 8th June – Who on earth do landlords vote for?

We are asking all landlords to complete this Poll.

Oops! We could not locate your form.

We are also extremely interested in your views so please post comments.

For example, you may well despise what the Conservative Government has done and you may well mistrust them but will any other party be better?

If landlords vote for minor parties might this hand a win to Labour?

Do you think a coalition Government is likely, and if so between which parties?

Which party would you least prefer to be elected and why?

Could not voting hand this election to Labour?

There is literally no point to a s.8. If the tenant goes wrong inside the first four months, you've not done your homework. Use s.21 Every time and keep jurisdiction from the judges!

Maybe your correct Charles, but the proof of how silly I am, will be on our Tax summary.

Brace for impact!

Vote for UKIP but they will never get in, it is an impossibility so whatever they promise it won't happen, Then you may have to live with the wrong party getting in. Labour and Lib.Dem. are not landlord friendly parties. Lobby the tories that is the best bet. And if nobody does anything for us, we will still be better off with the Cons. in other areas of our lives, for the moment anyway.

I did have a meeting with MC on Tuesday but he's shied off.

Still got a meeting with Dean Palethorpe in Salisbury tomorrow.

I'm not surprised he's shied away, Barry. Judging from his tweet about landlords and first time buyers he doesn't have a clue and is out of his depth. Opposing Section 24 would make UKIP stand out as the only party speaking sanity on this; it is an opportunity for them to gain huge credibility if they oppose it as part of an evidence-based housing strategy. Hopefully the guys at the top will see this and then filter it downwards. The reason why this could be so important is that the Tories could then nick it as their policy and implement it in power.

A terrible choice between the devil and the deep blue sea as they say.
a ill conceived policy that will back fire on the Tories i'm sure if it is allowed to run.....However, when you look at the other options......they are so much worst.
Labour with Corbyn and his donkey jacket and striking unions will be demanding the earth and definitely will kill off PRS, which will also generate billions of UK debit with a house building programme, rent caps, right to buys etc.....Russia may actually be more friendly than here!!
I can't see a labour win to be honest, the middle classes won't swing vote into Labour and the liberals will be full of Remains, Tories full of leaves, and Labour.....well i guess we'll see, but i suspect apart from the strong militant working classes in cities, there will be little support for them......
Having said that, i've already told my conservative MP i won't be voting for him due to the Section 24, so i may have to spoil my paper, or just not bother, we'll see soon enough!

I have a response from my (Conservative) MP:

Dear Lindsey

Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention.

I am sorry to hear how disappointed you are with this issue and I fully understand why.

I will, as you request, take this matter up with colleagues.

As we are now in the last days of this Parliament, it is something that I can also raise in the commons chamber after the election.

You make very valid points about property prices where we are relative to those in London and I will ensure your concerns are heard.

Best wishes.

I would like to suggest that when everyone makes their tax return, they ask to be exempt from paying the tax on account element as it is their intention to sell some or all of their rental properties. May be if HMRC are inundated with this request the penny might drop about how disastrous the effect of S24 is going to be on the PRS.

Totally agree with LS. Landlords will have a much worse life if any party other than the Conservatives are elected.

Whatever you may feel about them, Conservative's are still the best option and have to win. Voting Ukip or spoiling /not voting is throwing the vote away, and feeding us to the left.

Jeremy Corbyn apparently now has the backing of the UK Communist Party.

Given the combination of the Reds no longer being under the bed, and my Conservative MP now acknowledging our legitimate concerns, I will be voting Conservative, and trusting that they will be prepared to look at S24 after the general election.
