General Election 8th June – Who on earth do landlords vote for?

We are asking all landlords to complete this Poll.

Oops! We could not locate your form.

We are also extremely interested in your views so please post comments.

For example, you may well despise what the Conservative Government has done and you may well mistrust them but will any other party be better?

If landlords vote for minor parties might this hand a win to Labour?

Do you think a coalition Government is likely, and if so between which parties?

Which party would you least prefer to be elected and why?

Could not voting hand this election to Labour?

I'm still struggling to resign myself to voting for any of them yet - would hate to spoil my vote
but . . . .

For what it's worth I believe the Conservatives made a mistake when they rushed in S24. As we know it was thrown together by a 20 something intern and most of the MPs didn't understand it / weren't interested (hence they all resorted to the 'level playing field' script).
They probably thought the furore would soon die down and people would accept it.

To be able to backtrack on it won't be easy, as to be seen to favour landlords wouldn't look good. They would have to come up with a creative explanation so that a) they don't lose face and b) they can make out they are doing it to benefit a section of society other than landlords (tenants or the housing market or FTBs etc).

I'd like to think they would give us a sign that they are at least thinking along those lines, otherwise I'm afraid it will have to be a spoiled ballot paper for me, much as that goes against the grain.

Anne, I think our only hope is for the government to introduce S24 going forwards only and scrap the retrospective element. Let's all push for that!

Or perhaps some of the old Lib Dem supporters are realizing that it was only the Lib Dems that kept the Tories as under control as they were during the coalition and it could have been a lot worse for many sectors

I like the 'small fee' statement: in Newham is currently £500 for property, regardless you pay for 1 or 5 years... Labour at their best

I probably will, but I'd like to know their position on the PRS.

I met the Chairman of a local branch last week - he doesn't know, wasn't even aware of s.24 let alone how bad it is.

I tried to meet another branch Chairman (Swindon) who agreed to meet then cancelled. Subsequently spouted a load of anti-Landlord venom on twitter.

Indeed she isn't. When I sent my lengthy email to her pointing out how stupid and hypocritical her public statements were, she didn't even have the decency to reply.

Likewise she is quite verbose on her willingness to intervene in markets 'when they are not working correctly' - a subjective measure. When I studied economics I was taught interference in markets is rarely a good thing. When s24 brings about the hefty rent increases we all predict then this might be a market that 'is not working correctly'. Proper tories would never propose rent controls but the current bunch masquerading as tories surely would. Having said this there really is no option. Any other vote risks worse still muppets in power. On the bbc website today labour are banging on about increased fines, licensing etc for PRS - usual crap. Legislation has been around for years to get rid of dodgy landlords just the local authority don't use it.
