How did the PN meeting go?

Myself and two other large portfolio landlords are in central London tomorrow with an afternoon to kill if you’re about for a coffee/beer and a chat…

I hope it goes well and we get one party willing to speak up for us and able to develop a rational housing policy. I also hope that if the top guys come on board they have sufficient influence over the rank and file.

I think a better way of trying to get the leadership of UKIP nationally and regionally on side is say if you think rents are to high with your fellow countrymen providing the housing, just wait till the ‘build to rent’ takes over, making the distinction with do they want renting from someone they meet or a faceless corporation. Wish I could find the ft article from last year which casually said the rent from a build to rent provider would almost certainly be 10-25% more expensive. Another clever move would be say in tandem with making it easy to evict for arrears get rid of section 21 (apart from for sale of property) then only the rogue tenants and their defenders would be able to complain.

I will be interested to hear what UKIP say, as they had a very attractive 40% income tax pledge in the last election which really tempted me (something like raising the threshold to £50K). If this was pledged again, this would help mitigate S24 effects.

I’m going to try to embed a tweet I’ve just sent to my MP.

I said in tandem with making easier ( I would say much much easier) to evict using sec 8 f or arrears or anti social behavior. As far as I know most people use 21 because its easier to evict troublesome tenants (which the anti landlord stories never moot as a reason) or sell a property. If you want to argue keeping thats fine I just thought if sec 8 was strengthened while sec 21 was weakened it would neutralize any claim to be pro landlord (which most of pity is difficult).
