General Election 8th June – Who on earth do landlords vote for?
We are asking all landlords to complete this Poll.![]()
Oops! We could not locate your form.
We are also extremely interested in your views so please post comments.
For example, you may well despise what the Conservative Government has done and you may well mistrust them but will any other party be better?
If landlords vote for minor parties might this hand a win to Labour?
Do you think a coalition Government is likely, and if so between which parties?
Which party would you least prefer to be elected and why?
Could not voting hand this election to Labour?

“I cannot see any party backing landlords”
I refer you to Dr Rosalind Becks excellent article which repudiates in such clarity that a 10 year old would instantly understand the stupidity of taxing landlords on interest payments, Osbornes section 24 attack, whilst extolling the work of the PRS which has produced 83% of all new dwellings between 1996 and 2013. A 10 year old would tell you to ask landlords nicely to do a few more each as we need 250,00 each year and not treat them as criminals and ostracise them from our society at every opportunity.
The paragraph below from Rosalind is reason enough to treat landlords as the answer to our housing shortage instead of nailing us to the cross.
11.3. In fact, as the RLA has pointed out, there are many thousands of ‘private’ landlords who would be able to contribute massively in the endeavour to build more homes and they could do this far more quickly than large institutions.xlvi Landlords have a track record, being responsible for the creation of 2.5 million homes between the 1996 and 2013, which was 83% of the increase in dwellings over that period in England alone.xlvii They could also continue in what is an area of speciality for landlords – the conversion of commercial buildings and renovation of derelict property.
This should convince any honest politician

J Moodie, you do not have to convince me of the stupidity and unfairness of S24. I totally get it, as would a 10 year old and it is completely wrong. It’s just that the general public will not look at the arguments properly. It would take a brave party to declare they wish to help landlords pay less tax, this is as deep as most people would care to look, that is why I think lobbying parties on this issue would not be effective. I would rather put this aside on this occasion and vote for the party that I feel would be best for the country as a whole.

Who would I vote for?……None of the above but, for the Country has to be the Cons. All crooks imho. Is there not anyone here who wishes to stand. Might take a little time to get to the top but from acorns……

Repealing the Tory “Tenant Tax” has a nice ring to it.

Hi Mark
I don’t know if you are serious, but after the election was announced I said to my wife, Corbyn will get in if we are not careful, we will be thrown out of our house and it will be filled up with migrants. (not that I have anything against migrants so long as they are not living in my house).
Putin will be helping Corbyn so we need to watch out!

Hi Colin
Have a look at the Poll results.
25% have said they previously voted Conservative but will not vote for anybody this time!
I appreciate that sentiment might change but there are also several comments from people who have said they intend to spoil their ballot paper. Also, it is inevitable that Property118 readers are more likely to have been Conservative anyway, so the Labour vote is somewhat meaningless in our Poll.
The thought of voting Conservative after what they’ve done to landlords doesn’t sit right with me. However, I’d still rather they got in than any of the others, because the others all have policies which are even more anti-landlord.
Seriously, I am worried.

How about it Mark Alexander, stand for election!!! Just think of the publicity for the Axe The Tenant Tax Campaign. Start throwing around the tax on taxi drivers use of fuel scenario and you would get them backing you as well. He who dares wins lol

OMG. A brilliant idea. Probably not Mark though as he’s gone AWOL in Malta. Maybe Steve Bolton? And stand for Croydon Central as the landlords candidate. That would focus the mind of Gavin Barwell – who I actually like, and he’s made progress shifting the emphasis from owner-occupation to private rentals, but crucially, only private rentals by big business. We need to nudge him further and this could do it. We could raise funds here to support the candidate.

LOL – I doubt a Malta Resident tax-exile would be allowed to stand.
Even if I could, I wouldn’t, because I would need to spend too many days in the UK and the tax I’d have to pay back on that basis would cripple me.
Why don’t you do it? 🙂
