Misleading the public as to what they are using their money for?

I am struggling to understand why Shelter has the nerve to start a new (very expensive – as seen on TV) marketing campaign to raise funds for people who may have been made homeless because of Covid-19?

Shelter already receive £15 million in funding from various public bodies, so why are they begging for more money when they don’t even use the money they receive to actually house the homeless?

How Shelter can behave in this way by pandering to the public purse in these extremely difficult times without any transparency as to their existing £15 million income and why this is not enough in order to justify their new Covid-19 campaign?

There has been a clear message to landlords, supported by legislation, by the Government to stave off any tenant repossessions for the next 3 months. Therefore, surely the money they are raising is not for legal costs in contesting landlord repossessions in court, when landlords are prohibited from doing so?

Their advertising gives me the (false) impression they are helping the Covid-19 homeless by rehousing them, even though this is not actually said. Their actions are creating an inference. Are they misleading the public as to what they are using their money for?

Can anyone enlighten me?

Lesley

Poor old #Shelter chuggers are laid up, shops shut ( not that they actually contribute much after costs are deducted).

@pollyn1 is getting worried about her 6-figure fat-cat salary being paid.

Perhaps some close enquiry and 'diligence' is required? Many will recall the RSPCA in their really Bad Old Days when run by a political activist called Greig(?) whose sole purpose seemed to be to spend donations on useless prosecutions? I was also told to look at their executive car park at Southwater! Are Shelter drifting that way?

There's a facebook ad appearing on my feed too. By the comments their ad gets I get the impression that the general public think they are a worthy bunch strugling to do difficult work in difficult times 🙁 Which makes sense as why would the general public suspect that they don't house the homeless?

I hope that the new NRLRA starts a campaign to remove their charitable status and get the true message out.

I've said before on here that any campaign from landlords is automatically tainted but if it directs people towards Crisis or local named accommodation providing charities it might gain traction.

Ie Shelter takes in £75 million, pays its directors 6 figure salaries while using free volunteer labour and houses NOBODY. Crisis houses X people, local hostel A takes in didly squat and houses 30 people, local hostel B takes in didly squat and houses 22 people. Local charity C needs £3000 to house 50 people for a year. Where is your money best spent good people?

The NRLA won't have a word said against Shelter ( because they wouldn't want the 'political heat' ) and are 'afraid' of them.

I am disgusted at this ad. There are millions set to die around the world from this horrible situation. Serious illness is rife in our country & pretty much everywhere else. Honourable charities are struggling to stay alive, when they are most needed. As much as I don't like bojo, the U.K. Government are doing the best they can. The entire country, if not the world, is heading down a financial & health rabbit hole that has no visible exit. There absolutely no choice than to dive into it. Then shelter choose to taint all the good landlords with the same reputation as the minority of poor landlords. It's truly sickening. Previous comments about removing their charitable status are absolutely valid. Anyone know how much this ad cost them to make & screen? In fact who cares. Anything more than pocket change is too much. This is a political organisation, not a humanitarian one. The fat cats behind it, and all those involved in the ad should be ashamed of themselves. I truly hope none of the financiers, back room team & actors never work in their field again. Do something useful people. Stacking shelves is a worthy & needed activity. As a career, it would be suitable. Let someone who really cares take control of what you claim to be passionate about. Give up the posh motor & do something worthwhile. Utter madness in a time of national crisis. I wish I could swear. Go away & think hard about what you've done, and apologise. Idiots, truly idiots.
