Landlords Alliance – Emergency Euro Elections Statement

The Landlords Alliance was set up to represent and fight for private landlords. We never planned or envisaged getting into politics; yet events have forced us to confront reality.

May’s failed administration wants to scrap Section 21s, which will create potential lifetime tenancies and prevent landlords from having control over their own property. Until and unless major changes are made firstly to the Section 8 process and the grossly inadequate court system, we cannot support this step.

It has become clear that the Government is not in fact interested in reforming the private rented sector in any positive way, but is rather chasing cheap headlines by pretending they are helping tenants.

In summary this useless Tory government is anti-business, anti-landlord and couldn’t care less about tenants on benefits, despite what they say. As from now we advise our Alliance members not to accept DSS tenants just as Shelter will not provide them with bonds. It is just too risky.

As of now, we do not know what policies the Brexit Party will have for the economy in general and the PRS in particular, but the signs are good and we are ready to give the Brexit Party a chance. After Thursday’s European elections we intend to approach the Brexit Party to solicit their support for the sector.

We urge landlords, their families and friends to respond in the strongest terms to the latest assault on the sector, with May’s announcement of the scrapping of Section 21. We will not stand by as property rights are annihilated.

I have spoken today to a landlord who has eight tenants who agree with him and who are going to vote for the Brexit Party on Thursday. They understand that this is an attack on landlords and tenants. Let’s get the Brexit Party over the line on Thursday. Then we are on new ground, as victory should give them momentum to win or hold the balance of power in a General Election.

Until now landlords have had no choice and nowhere to go. Perhaps that’s why the Tories thought they could take us for granted. Well, we now have a viable alternative, so they have grossly miscalculated.

If we get out Thursday and work with our tenants, we can give this rotten Tory party a good hiding. Let’s finally show this pathetic government that their campaign against us has hit the buffers.

They have destroyed their core constituency of voters and any prospect of Conservatives getting the tenant vote will dissolve when they are unable to find accommodation. We must explain to every DSS tenant that we turn away: THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT!

We urge all landlords to back Brexit Party candidates against Conservatives everywhere.

Its called Democracy, and the alternative is Anarchy

Only one of the alternatives is anarchy Chris.
Before that happened, I think a soft military coup whilst the useless politicians sorted themselves out would be more likely.

I have never nor would ever vote based on who I think ‘might’ give me the best deal personally. I always base my vote on which parties' policies (housing is just one of many) might offer the best direction for the nation. That said, I accept ol Nige is an exceptionally skilled orator, that is without doubt!

I’m not sure Mark A (who has 10.7k twitter followers) should allow the NLA* (who have 202 followers at the time of writing, a sizeable proportion of whom are presumably HPC’ers who did so for a laugh) should allow the NLA* to be quite so political on Mark and Neil’s forum. Unless of course the NLA* can provide more detailed (or even basic) analysis of Nige’s policies on more important areas such as Education, Health etc etc

*For avoidance of doubt NLA means National Landlords Alliance in this case.

Ps Bring on proportional representation! It is sorely needed in the UK (and many other countries). At least one benefit of all the Brex*hit shenanigans is that it’s likely to encourage greater proportional representation going forward. Unintended consequences 'n all that…

I would much prefer to take a chance on a party that has yet to declare its policies that one that has already announced its plans to decimate the PRS. At least Nigel Farage comes from a business background he is one of us, unlike the vast majority of shirkers in Westminster.

What a strange question - only you can make that call! Your little quiz is along the same lines of 'my Jack Russell is called Fred and is white with a black spot on his side. How old does that make my grandmother ...... '

As a physicist it is obvious to me that Mark is simultaneously a leaver and remainer and only some weird and wonderful quantum event will determine which.

A majority is still ‘some’ people (even if it is marginally more). And that wasn’t really the point of my question.
The Lib Dem’s and Greens have been campaigning for PR for years. Perhaps with the decimation of the Tory Party the country may get it and indeed will be better for it.
We’ve had 2 coalitions in the last 9 years. How did you like them? Did they give you the kind of country you want?
My vote has and always will be based on what I think is best for the UK not on personal self interest, and that doesn’t involve privatisation of the NHS or lower food and safety standards.
My point was that people blamed the EU for where we are and think Brexit will be better, but then complain that our politicians and system are useless. Not recognising that maybe, just maybe? that’s where the problem lay all along.

You can think in your Utopian terms with Farage or UKIP as your potential saviour but look behind the ‘warm words’ and there is no substance and never has been. It’s all rhetoric and populism.
I’m interested to see the results on Monday. And also what happens in the future when Brexiteers finally realise that the EU wasn’t actually the problem in the first place.

I think you have identified the real problem, incompetent self interested politicians, absolutely nothing to do with the EU.
