Landlords Alliance – Emergency Euro Elections Statement

The Landlords Alliance was set up to represent and fight for private landlords. We never planned or envisaged getting into politics; yet events have forced us to confront reality.

May’s failed administration wants to scrap Section 21s, which will create potential lifetime tenancies and prevent landlords from having control over their own property. Until and unless major changes are made firstly to the Section 8 process and the grossly inadequate court system, we cannot support this step.

It has become clear that the Government is not in fact interested in reforming the private rented sector in any positive way, but is rather chasing cheap headlines by pretending they are helping tenants.

In summary this useless Tory government is anti-business, anti-landlord and couldn’t care less about tenants on benefits, despite what they say. As from now we advise our Alliance members not to accept DSS tenants just as Shelter will not provide them with bonds. It is just too risky.

As of now, we do not know what policies the Brexit Party will have for the economy in general and the PRS in particular, but the signs are good and we are ready to give the Brexit Party a chance. After Thursday’s European elections we intend to approach the Brexit Party to solicit their support for the sector.

We urge landlords, their families and friends to respond in the strongest terms to the latest assault on the sector, with May’s announcement of the scrapping of Section 21. We will not stand by as property rights are annihilated.

I have spoken today to a landlord who has eight tenants who agree with him and who are going to vote for the Brexit Party on Thursday. They understand that this is an attack on landlords and tenants. Let’s get the Brexit Party over the line on Thursday. Then we are on new ground, as victory should give them momentum to win or hold the balance of power in a General Election.

Until now landlords have had no choice and nowhere to go. Perhaps that’s why the Tories thought they could take us for granted. Well, we now have a viable alternative, so they have grossly miscalculated.

If we get out Thursday and work with our tenants, we can give this rotten Tory party a good hiding. Let’s finally show this pathetic government that their campaign against us has hit the buffers.

They have destroyed their core constituency of voters and any prospect of Conservatives getting the tenant vote will dissolve when they are unable to find accommodation. We must explain to every DSS tenant that we turn away: THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT!

We urge all landlords to back Brexit Party candidates against Conservatives everywhere.

There is only one logical choice, otherwise we would be Turkey's voting for Christmas.

CONSERVATIVE

This is despite their stupidity in regards to refusing to reverse the Section 24 restrictions on finance cost relief and the Tenant Fees Bill and the Additional Rate of SDLT and selective Licencing.

This is because the other parties all have even more destruction planned for the private rented sector. At least Boris is proposing an £80,000 basic rate tax band!

Yes, I'm far more concerned about keeping Corbyn out. I think tactical voting is called for, and which party that is depends on where you live.

He's also a total hypocrite - lives in a big expensive house but doesn't think anyone else should. Earns a load of money - much more than the average for UK, his son rents out an ex-social housing property on Airbnb (so isn't even providing a home), but no one else should be allowed to do that and his wife allegedly own a coffee plantation which is not a workers' cooperative, but is run on capitalist lines and the workers are paid a pittance - but no one outside his family should be allowed to do that. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/hard-left-candidates-wife-sells-coffee-for-pound10-but-the-farmers-get-just-93p-n2m6ctrdjfp It's easy to be a "socialist" when you are a millionaire and don't need to worry about where the next penny is coming from.

Boris has a lot of "previous" on saying whatever he thinks will convince people to do what he wants and then "forgetting" about his promises. He also is famous for not "doing detail" which is where most of the devil seems to be in housing policy. I have zero belief he will do anything for private landlords as opposed to the big corperates

Basically you are saying BoJo is a LIAR. Which is probably true. Will so absolutely nothing for us. IMHO the reality is that the tactical voting for him is the only option to keep Commie Corbynov from No 10, because the other option doesn't bear to even think about. Sadly seems more and more real...

I don't disagree - I think he's probably a sociopath - but Labour majority is so big here that there's no way voting anything but Tory would make a difference (and even that won't) - in 2017, Tories were 2nd and UKIP were 3rd

I would prefer a Brexit - Tory coalition, - something to Harden up the Leave, as Boris' "Deal " isn't any good for the UK and isn't a true Brexit, its just the best the EU are prepared to offer us ( and of course, they want to deter other countries from following, which they will !

My view is that if the Brexit Party takes Too many votes from the Tories (enough to get a few seats) we will have a Corbyn Government

I think a lot of would-be Labour voters will defect to Libs
