The Landlords Alliance was set up to represent and fight for private landlords. We never planned or envisaged getting into politics; yet events have forced us to confront reality.

May’s failed administration wants to scrap Section 21s, which will create potential lifetime tenancies and prevent landlords from having control over their own property. Until and unless major changes are made firstly to the Section 8 process and the grossly inadequate court system, we cannot support this step.

It has become clear that the Government is not in fact interested in reforming the private rented sector in any positive way, but is rather chasing cheap headlines by pretending they are helping tenants.

In summary this useless Tory government is anti-business, anti-landlord and couldn’t care less about tenants on benefits, despite what they say. As from now we advise our Alliance members not to accept DSS tenants just as Shelter will not provide them with bonds. It is just too risky.

As of now, we do not know what policies the Brexit Party will have for the economy in general and the PRS in particular, but the signs are good and we are ready to give the Brexit Party a chance. After Thursday’s European elections we intend to approach the Brexit Party to solicit their support for the sector.

We urge landlords, their families and friends to respond in the strongest terms to the latest assault on the sector, with May’s announcement of the scrapping of Section 21. We will not stand by as property rights are annihilated.

I have spoken today to a landlord who has eight tenants who agree with him and who are going to vote for the Brexit Party on Thursday. They understand that this is an attack on landlords and tenants. Let’s get the Brexit Party over the line on Thursday. Then we are on new ground, as victory should give them momentum to win or hold the balance of power in a General Election.

Until now landlords have had no choice and nowhere to go. Perhaps that’s why the Tories thought they could take us for granted. Well, we now have a viable alternative, so they have grossly miscalculated.

If we get out Thursday and work with our tenants, we can give this rotten Tory party a good hiding. Let’s finally show this pathetic government that their campaign against us has hit the buffers.

They have destroyed their core constituency of voters and any prospect of Conservatives getting the tenant vote will dissolve when they are unable to find accommodation. We must explain to every DSS tenant that we turn away: THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT!

We urge all landlords to back Brexit Party candidates against Conservatives everywhere.
