Landlords Alliance – Emergency Euro Elections Statement

The Landlords Alliance was set up to represent and fight for private landlords. We never planned or envisaged getting into politics; yet events have forced us to confront reality.

May’s failed administration wants to scrap Section 21s, which will create potential lifetime tenancies and prevent landlords from having control over their own property. Until and unless major changes are made firstly to the Section 8 process and the grossly inadequate court system, we cannot support this step.

It has become clear that the Government is not in fact interested in reforming the private rented sector in any positive way, but is rather chasing cheap headlines by pretending they are helping tenants.

In summary this useless Tory government is anti-business, anti-landlord and couldn’t care less about tenants on benefits, despite what they say. As from now we advise our Alliance members not to accept DSS tenants just as Shelter will not provide them with bonds. It is just too risky.

As of now, we do not know what policies the Brexit Party will have for the economy in general and the PRS in particular, but the signs are good and we are ready to give the Brexit Party a chance. After Thursday’s European elections we intend to approach the Brexit Party to solicit their support for the sector.

We urge landlords, their families and friends to respond in the strongest terms to the latest assault on the sector, with May’s announcement of the scrapping of Section 21. We will not stand by as property rights are annihilated.

I have spoken today to a landlord who has eight tenants who agree with him and who are going to vote for the Brexit Party on Thursday. They understand that this is an attack on landlords and tenants. Let’s get the Brexit Party over the line on Thursday. Then we are on new ground, as victory should give them momentum to win or hold the balance of power in a General Election.

Until now landlords have had no choice and nowhere to go. Perhaps that’s why the Tories thought they could take us for granted. Well, we now have a viable alternative, so they have grossly miscalculated.

If we get out Thursday and work with our tenants, we can give this rotten Tory party a good hiding. Let’s finally show this pathetic government that their campaign against us has hit the buffers.

They have destroyed their core constituency of voters and any prospect of Conservatives getting the tenant vote will dissolve when they are unable to find accommodation. We must explain to every DSS tenant that we turn away: THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT!

We urge all landlords to back Brexit Party candidates against Conservatives everywhere.

Hi Luke

Whilst I disagree with the Alliance being politicised, and don't agree with all the strategies, I still lend my support. Larry's heart is in the right place and his objectives are clear. His strategies are contentious, but so what? As you have said, it's the results we are more interested in. I don't see any more viable options to lend my support to. It's easy to criticise from the sidelines, but there are very few who want to actually climb into the ring and fight, or indeed to pay somebody else to fight for them.

100,000 members would be nice, 1,000,00 even nicer, but even if there are only 100 members, that's a seed which can be grown.

Please Annie stop being so negative towards people who are actively trying to do something which may benefit landlords.

What would you do to try to stop the onslaught against landlords?

Brexit is bad for landlords and lending support for the Brexit Party will make it worse.

No Brexit is bad for the democratic process and would do far more damage by disengaging several generations of an entire nation than leaving the EU (even if it did in fact turn out to be a bad thing).

Haven't heard any so far on this thread.

I will be voting for Farage. I think he should be given a chance.
I despair at how this country as gone down.
We have had no great leader from any party since Maggie although I did not agree with all her policies. They are all out for plum jobs in the private sector at a later date.

If Corbyn gets in then I think we might as well give up work because the taxes will be not worth it.

There is nobody in Labour or Tory worth voting for.

Larry is making a stand and many of us are fed up with the softly softly approach as our businesses are destroyed.
He has my full support.

We are being slaughtered like lambs

I’m just interested in who you think will be running the country after Brexit?
If and when we leave, it’ll be Tories, Labour and the Lib Dem’s as usual.
Farage has tried several times to be elected as an MP and failed each time. He’s also being investigated again by the EU for failing to declare donations and gifts from his US backers.
Things may change of course.
However as someone who has followed politics from the 80’s,
I’ve long been in favour of the EU to temper some of the worst excesses of the UK govt of the day. If we are out then things are likely to get more extreme, but I guess that’s what some people want.

If by extreme, you mean radical change from the status quo, then yes. I, and I believe a majority, do indeed want something more 'extreme'.

I think Farage would make a great PM if only for the very fact that he has not been a lifelong MP. It would be a new approach to politics. Perhaps a worse one, but I doubt it. Gotta be worth a shot...

Reply to the comment left by KD South East at 23/05/2019 - 16:42You indeed do guess right that OUT is what people want. The error you make is in the word ' Some ' when in fact it was the Majority.
Its called Democracy, and the alternative is Anarchy - which exactly are you in favour of ? Difficult choices have to made and there''s No 'fence' to sit on.
( Doesn't everybody hate a sore Loser, or I believe the in-vogue term is Remoaner )
and I wouldn't be too sure about a Tory, Labour or Lib dem Govt. personally, I believe there would likely be a coalition. UKIP are rightly campaigning for Real Democracy where Everybody's vote counts, via Proportional Representation, which is the only way I see us getting a more inclusive Britain..

If a general election is held before Brexit, don't you think it a strong possibility there could be a coalition government with the Brexit Party? Labour and the Cons would bleed seats to them. Have a look at today's euro election results and turnout for a glimpse of the future.
