Initiative Q
Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of credit cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it’s ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join – so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There’s nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot. If you missed getting bitcoin seven years ago, you wouldn’t want to miss this.

Sorry to be cynical but I really can’t see what this Q Initiative is trying to achieve. The world already has plenty of “payment systems” such as Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, Swift etc etc. Why do we need another one ? And how will this one be any different ?
I can’t see that these “Qs” can be a currency. Take any country it has its own currency. The U.K. has Sterling and everything else such as Bitcoin and Gold is just a commodity. There’s always an exchange rate, how many bitcoins to the dollar and this exchange rate is not stable it swings wildly up and down. A currency has to be stable and also a store of value. None of this applies to gold or Bitcoin, just look at Bitcoin’s value it gone from $20,000 down to around $6,000 dollars this year, who wants a currency that fluctuates like this ?
Also the authorities have ultimate power and can simply outlaw any “alternative currency”. I think China has outlawed Bitcoin now.
There’s Bitcoin and Etherium etc etc, all these have their own payment systems, do we really need another one ? Sorry guys but it all sounds a load of rubbish to me.

What’s to be cynical about when you’re investing nothing but a bit of effort?
If it comes to nothing at least it’s been a bit of fun.
It’s easier to be cynical than to do something, but that’s a choice people make. Some will, some won’t, so what?

Here’s an interesting observation I’ve made.
Only 20% of the people I’ve signed up have gone on to take advantage of this opportunity. Are they missing out or robbing their friends of the same opportunity through their apathy?
Pareto’s principle, AKA the 80:20 rule always seems to appear in these circumstances.
