EU Referendum - Landlords Reactions

UPDATED ARTICLE

At 22:30 on 22nd June 2016 we launched an EU Referendum Poll to see which way Landlords would be voting. The Poll confirmed that Landlords reading Property118 would be voting Brexit and as we now know, that is what happened. Interestingly, prior to the result being known, a greater percentage of landlords who took part in the Poll advised they would vote Brexit than the Nation did generally. Our Poll result just before midnight on the 23rd was 59% in favour of Brexit. We have left the Poll open to see if this changes.

Judging by social media generally it is likely that quite a few of our members will want to comment on why they voted the way they did and to debate what the outcome will mean to property investment in the UK. The debate rages in the comments section below.

If you haven’t already done so you can still cast complete our Poll. We added a name and email field so that we can send you an email with the final results of our poll when when we eventually decide to close it. Your information will remain confidential.

We are particularly keen to understand what landlords believe the impact will be on the UK property market.

I cannot but agree but would extend the comment to no facts presented by either side. I attended the big debate in Wembley and all I heard was a slanging match with gratuitous insults being hurled at the opposing side. Not one fact was presented during the whole debate.

Hi, can you clarify which are the inferior and which are the superior culture that you mention?

I think that all the experts were quite clear about the consequences of a 'leave' vote, so it is not accurate to put both sides on the same level.

I take it these inferior cultures belong to inferior people's?

As recently as yesterday I spoke with a number of people who said they still hadn’t made their mind up. However, almost all of them said that they were definitely going to vote.

Today I spoke to some of the very same folk who confirmed that they did end up voting yesterday afternoon/evening, but said they now actually regretted their decision.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Apologies in advance as I sincerely do not mean to appear condescending, but realistically, do others believe that such an important YES/NO decision was perhaps actually beyond the capabilities of much of the great British public in this particular case?

I think you're right, Mark.

Today I heard on the local radio someone commenting that they did not have enough time to make up their mind. I don't want to sound condescending either but to me that rather suggests that they were overwhelmed by the question.

What confused people was the conflicting speculation on the consequences, and the spin/sophistry of Governing classes

Hi

There is a petition. In less than 24 hrs there are over half a million signatures for a 2nd referendum. See link

If you would care to read my post you will see my actual wording was “the EU is an ill thought out, badly run organisation that is trying to impose unworkable one size fits all strategies on to countries with different economies, cultures and social norms.” I most certainly did NOT say the UK is more nor less superior or inferior to any other country; the term I used was DIFFERENT. However, if you wish to imply that I am some sort of racist, bigoted Little Englander (if you knew the first thing about me, you would know I’m not even ethnically English) that is up to you and is based on your limited understanding of my statement and your own prejudices.

I also strongly suggest you keep your history and economics lessons to yourself.

I placed an early 'leave' vote via postal ballot, but if I had not been so quick to get my vote done, I would have voted 'remain'. This was in part a protest vote, as I believed 'remain' would win, though I made my final decision based on statistics from a well respected property analyst (whom I shan't name as the prediction was made in good faith). It was only the day after I posted this that George Osborne announced his predictions of a "punishment budget", and other more credible warnings came to the fore. Since yesterday, these seem to be coming true.

I have signed the petition you mention, and urge others to do the same. However, although Article 50 hasn't yet been invoked, and the result isn't legally binding, it would seem that with David Cameron's resignation the government is taking it as final and binding.
