EU Referendum - Landlords Reactions

UPDATED ARTICLE

At 22:30 on 22nd June 2016 we launched an EU Referendum Poll to see which way Landlords would be voting. The Poll confirmed that Landlords reading Property118 would be voting Brexit and as we now know, that is what happened. Interestingly, prior to the result being known, a greater percentage of landlords who took part in the Poll advised they would vote Brexit than the Nation did generally. Our Poll result just before midnight on the 23rd was 59% in favour of Brexit. We have left the Poll open to see if this changes.

Judging by social media generally it is likely that quite a few of our members will want to comment on why they voted the way they did and to debate what the outcome will mean to property investment in the UK. The debate rages in the comments section below.

If you haven’t already done so you can still cast complete our Poll. We added a name and email field so that we can send you an email with the final results of our poll when when we eventually decide to close it. Your information will remain confidential.

We are particularly keen to understand what landlords believe the impact will be on the UK property market.

In common with 52% of others who voted "leave" or 42% of those who voted "remain"? Or simply the increasing number of the "#Regretexit" camp who voted tactically to remain? At least we are admitting our mistake.

I would also suggest that if you lack the vocabulary to express your criticism in a more constructive fashion, you'd best not say anything at all.

Like it or not, I'm afraid this campaign has been voted mostly tactically, because as Sam Leith wrote in the FT, neither camp could produce very much hard data about how Brexit would affect us long term, and the "Leave" group were looking more to the long term.

We also had polls predicting a win for "Remain" so many people (from all walks of life and political persuasions) decided they would teach the establishment (i.e. the Labour party and the ruling Conservatives, as well as the EU) a lesson.

I personally voted that way because I'm sick and tired of the demonisation and scape-goating of landlords by all of these groups. I also find it ironic that many left-wingers who voted "Remain" are now accusing "Leave" voters of being racist, bigoted and hate filled (amongst other charming things), whereas it is all too obvious that these people are themselves choking on their own hatred.

Do you forget that Gordon Brown deregulated the banks which led to them over-lending to unsuitable prospects (all over the world as well), do you forget that he interfered with pensions so much that TATA and Philip Green were able to steal their Pension pots. DO you forget that Tony Blair took us to war in Iraq to please Bush and then quashed the report that stated there were no WPMD. My property deal were affected by that.

Then to haul these out to support the Remain campaign was political suicide - I bet all this did was to remind the electorate of all the damage they did to our economy.

Congratulation to the Brexit Team

Hi Eden, have signed, personally met a number of people who now have #BREGRET, but wonder if the number of petition signatories would have to be higher than the number who originally voted for REMAIN... to have any reasonable chance of success?

Hi

We do not have to go through with it. Please look at the link below. EU exit can still be blocked if we wish. Having spoken to so many people since, there are people saying we did not understand the implications, we were angry at the government and thought if we voted Leave, government would listen. Others said we were lied to by the 2 prominent Leave leaders. There are so many people with regrets. It was a shock even for the leave voters. If general election is called and the party are for EU and win then we can still stay in. It has been said on the LBC news the Germans said there is no haste to take our time. Once everyone has calmed down maybe it could be looked at again.
On LBC lot of people complaining about labour leader that he was/is eurosceptic, the party were half hearted and labour voters were not guided hence this result.

This vote has been the most democratic of my lifetime. In the General Election the Conservatives had 36.9% of the vote and had 331 MPs in Parliament,
UKIP received 12.6% of the vote and got one MP into Westminster and the SNP received 4.7% of the vote and got 56 MPs in Parliament. I appreciate that the first past the post system produces strong governments but how can those figures be fair? The Referendum gave every vote equal weight and the majority of the people voted OUT. Ignore the people at your peril. You will be committing political suicide. There are vast swathes of the country that have been ignored by the political elite. If this vote is ignored the vast majority of people will vote UKIP at the next election and we will be bounced out of the EU anyway.

Unfortunately people voted for completely wrong reasons! Agree with Eden Lan. They thought that if they vote Leave nothing really changes and the Government will take some action. Absolute lack of understanding.
I am just thinking - did we really ask for that? I feel that as a nation we were taken on a ride. Dave wanted to shut up Farage and conservative euro-sceptics for good. It did not work. Plus his and GO's behaviour was something like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Caused the biggest constitutional crisis in modern history. God only knows what will happen.

I agree with both Eden and Stewart. I am a supporter of electoral reform.

That said, am not sure which was worse, England's football performance tonight or 'little england's' abysmal contribution to the UK in the voting booths last thurs!

Boris led people to leave the EU and now he has abandoned the ship . Not standing for PM. He knows who ever has to trigger the Article 50 will be the most hated person and is never going to be able to get the deal he promised. "Single market but no freedom of movement" May be he will wait till the dirty job is done before putting himself up for PM again. Like they said in one of the papers he is not a dumb blonde, he knows exactly what he is doing.
