EU Referendum - Landlords Reactions

UPDATED ARTICLE

At 22:30 on 22nd June 2016 we launched an EU Referendum Poll to see which way Landlords would be voting. The Poll confirmed that Landlords reading Property118 would be voting Brexit and as we now know, that is what happened. Interestingly, prior to the result being known, a greater percentage of landlords who took part in the Poll advised they would vote Brexit than the Nation did generally. Our Poll result just before midnight on the 23rd was 59% in favour of Brexit. We have left the Poll open to see if this changes.

Judging by social media generally it is likely that quite a few of our members will want to comment on why they voted the way they did and to debate what the outcome will mean to property investment in the UK. The debate rages in the comments section below.

If you haven’t already done so you can still cast complete our Poll. We added a name and email field so that we can send you an email with the final results of our poll when when we eventually decide to close it. Your information will remain confidential.

We are particularly keen to understand what landlords believe the impact will be on the UK property market.

Your choice of politicians who support remain are all that I need to go for leave, a slimier bunch you could not wish for!

I believe Brexit is the common sense vote. The EU's share of global commerce has diminished, there is mass unemployment in Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal, we are seeing a significant resurgence of extreme left and right wing politics, the open border fiasco is allowing just anyone into our countries, eurozone banking is in poor shape and another crash is on the horizon! The EU is a failing project - to remain would be shackling ourselves to a corpse.

Britain needs to be brave and vote LEAVE. If the remain crowd win just say goodbye to GB, it will soon be completely ruined. My parents lived through two world wars and my dad was a soldier in WW1. If they could see what we have done to this country now they would be shocked to the core - what a mess!

Ask yourself: do I believe in democracy? If you do, the only way to vote is LEAVE!

The common sense approach would have been to try to understand the facts and to see that the Leave campaign had no facts to offer.

Alas, the British people have not let facts stay in the way of a good story (as exemplified by many comments in this thread)... I think we are now in the biggest mess since WWII.

The Pound has dropped 10% overnight, which is unheard of. The FTSE is going to follow (Tokyo down more than 8% as I write).

We have a reserve of £150Billion. There will always be market jerk-reflexes. Just be thankful we are not in the Euro.

Disastrous - inward-looking, xenophobic, small-minded, backward-looking - and then we might end up with the Buffoon as PM

Boris for PM and a Chancellor who also understands economics and the impact of the property market on it too please. Is that really too much to hope for!

The only positive is the possibility that George osbourne will be on his way and hopefully common sense will prevail but I won't hold my breath

It is rather bizarre; 59% of landlords supporting inevitable devaluation of the £ (15% already in 13hrs?) little chance of any more decent fixed rates, a desert of mortgage supply from a banking sector devalued by 18% overnight). At least there should be a few bargains for anyone with cash already snapping up all the repo's. Will the govt have any cash left to pay all the Housing Benefit? we'll see????

50% recovery in the last two hours!

Speculation and shock was inevitable regardless of the outcome.
