Landlords – Who gets your vote?

Landlords – Who gets your vote?

Hi, Do landlords have a viable political home? It appears not. Historically the Conservative party has been the party of the landlord, permitting the market to control itself to a large extent. This is no longer the case.

Why? Because we have a left of centre conservative government (note the small c). The tail is wagging the dog and in an effort to win voters, they are alienating their core voters in their masses.

Who to vote for then? Certainly not Labour, we only need to look at the London Mayor to see the path they would lead us down. Rent controls, mandatory licencing and higher taxation (and that’s just the start).

Research papers initiated by the Labour Party have even gone as far as to state that compulsory purchase at (market rates!!!) should be considered as a way to bolster the stock of social housing. The Green Party – even further left than Labour and posing the same, if not, a greater level of risk to the Landlord.

I suspect the first initiative would be mandatory EPC Grade A’s all round irrespective of cost.

This leaves us with Reform UK, led by Richard Tice. I live in an area of the UK (Bury North) with the smallest margin between Conservative and Labour at the last election.

Recently our conservative (small c again) MP James Daly, wrote in the local press that his greatest concern at the next election was not Labour, but Reform UK.

I agree with him, our Local Labour candidate James Frith is seen locally as weak and unviable and unlikely to take many votes.

However, many people will make a statement vote for Reform UK, even if this increases the likelihood of Labour gaining a seat.

My question to you readers is, should we vote Reform in the knowledge that it will allow a Labour win or should we vote Conservative?

Should we be looking at sending a clear message to the conservative government that will hopefully make them take notice and restructure themselves as a Conservative party, centre right to win the following election?

Or should we vote Conservative in the hope of weakening an incumbent Labour government?

Or could the seemingly impossible happen and the nation elect Reform UK. This would, be the best result for Landlords.

What do you think?

Steve

Very well said. We know nothing about Reform's the PRS policies. And not much about other policies, either.

Am I allowed to say BOLLOCKS!!!
Anyone voting other then Conservative is voting Labour, London Mayor Khan Corbyn (he is still lurking there), you choose!!
All the Reform Party can do is split the vote and crash whoever is the majority probably Conservative candidate.
They and the odd Gove have not been good but do you really want to be battered by newest Labour? Look at their hating faces?
Over to You.

Most of the time I've voted Conservative. Labour always seem to eventually run the country into the ground and tax everything to bu###ry.
Conservatives are just as bad now and i can hardly see anything difference in policys, so whats the point in them existing?
With the Cons hitting all tax payer's and especially landlords so badly over the last few years, mass imgraration, low wages, creating appalling standerds of living and the extra 2 years till retirement hit, iam absolutely furious with the Cons, they will NEVER get my vote again!
So it's Reform for me, and going forward never Cons or Labour, just protest votes or just any common sense party whether or not it results in helping either of them get in, its basically a two party system and they are practically identical anyway..bloody destructive, woke and useless.

Definitely not Cons or Reform. Prob Yellow given the new constituency boundary changes. A Hung parliament then Coalition formed (prob Red-led but with progressives who require electoral reform) to move away from the current ridiculous non-representative FPTP system so that the country can then move forward in the future with proportionally representative elected Governments. The country is in the current mess due to FPTP and ditching that for PR is it’s best hope moving forward.

I used to vote conservative, but at the last 2 general elections I spoiled my ballot paper as none of the conservative policies have helped me or my family and I'm certainly never voting for Labour!
As I've grown older (now approaching 60) I have become completely disillusioned with politics.
In 2015 I made efforts to improve my future pension income by moving stock market funds into 2 BTL properties in an attempt to remove some of the risk of being completely reliant on investments. Big mistake! I'm now looking to get rid of them as I'm sick of all the Landlord bashing by all political parties, especially the current government.
We need a new political party; one that wants to help people, not punish them for working hard and daring to invest in their future, and until this happens I will continue to spoil my ballot at all elections.

Bring it on!
