Please see the response from Fergus Wilson to the article “Kent Landlord – Hero or Villain“:

“Hi, I have noted the Property118 article this morning.

Property 118 talks about Zealots. We call them Petty Little Hitlers (PLH).

A Council Officer can never be wrong. He is always right and when he is not right he is never wrong!

Ashford Council brought a case against me for no hot water for not acting quickly enough! The Council then had to withdraw the prosecution for not acting quick enough itself! It was out of time!

The Council then said we will set up a procedure to help if you cannot find a Gas Safety Engineer! Well what a great idea!

However, the reality is this. No one Answers the telephone. It turned out all three in the Chain of Command were on holiday at the same time!

So this is all about an Organizational Deficiency at the Council! It is nothing at all to do with Single Mums or Pregnant ladies!

I certainly never mentioned them and it is a total figment of the imagination of Journalists who do not apply the standards of journalism they should abide by and amend to the point where they focus on something that is untrue.

What the real issue is at the moment is the serious shortage of Gas Safety Engineers!

Joe Public things the term plumber and Gas Safety Engineer are interchangeable terms. They are not! Plumbers are in short supply but Gas Safety Engineers are in even shorter supply!

The Council says it has the answer and is there to help!

I am afraid it is Hot Air!

Fergus Wilson”

I stand with you, Mr Wilson. The real story should be told, far-and-wide, by you as the media will twist the truth.

The fact is, we are private enterprise and as such can steer our business (within the law) as we see fit and it will be seen that every (daft) action has a (very real) reaction.

"I am afraid it is Hot Air!"
Just channel it to the homes without heating. Problem solved, simples! 🙂
In fact, there's probably enough to heat all homes, so you can do away with boilers altogether.

I have never experienced a problem with getting a heating engineer in Greater London, and in fact mine covers all of London and the SE.

I believe Tessa Shepperson (as always) has summed it up accurately and fairly in her LandlordLaw blog here: https://www.landlordlawblog.co.uk/2018/07/23/illegal-discriminatory-practice-evicting-mothers-young-babies/

The comments seem to not entirely agree with every word of what Tessa's said, though...

Mr Wilsin, you can see by the tone and content of my article that i absolutely agree with your stance, furthermore the vast majority of readers comments are also sympathetic to your plight.

I find it very difficult to beleive you have never had a problem getting a boier fixed within 24 hours Mandy.

Have you never had a scenario whereby the engineer needed to order a new part, or where he says the boiler needs to be replaced because it cannot be repaired.

It would be impossible to meet the Council's unreasonable expectations under such circumstances.

I've copied this on both threads as been delayed, so apologies for the duplication.

And what these stupid councils don't get is:

I have a lot of NEW boilers in my houses.
Some 2 years warranty, some 5 years, some 10 years warranty.

Should they break down, & they do sometimes, we call Baxi Bosch Vaillant etc.

Some of 'em say SEVEN days. Shocking I know. I try to get my plumbers same day. But what can we do if this BIG ORGANISATION who we have paid to have the warranty with tells us that?
Why aren't council & Govt taking against this clearly wrong behaviour by the Combi Warranty manufacturer?
Oh no, I forgot 'cause we got Landlords written on our head, we an easy target for the dimwits. Proper imbeciles the lot of 'em.

If this came in in Nottingham, I too would take no more single people with kids. I've started avoiding families with more than 2 kids now the Benefit cap is here. Not my fault. Not the woman with 3 kids fault, but IT IS the Govts' fault.

Our Nottingham Council is PROPER THICK. The Councillors who have bought Licensing in have no common sense whatsoever & know nothing about renting houses, & get everything wrong what I have seen this year. They would love to bring in this rule, which as I've said 75,000 times, u make it harder for Landlord, eventually that makes it harder for tenant.

I this week for the FIRST TIME in 20 years of renting houses, have a problem. I was doing a BRAND NEW kitchen for a tenant, she was having it fitted Monday. But also this week, I have had to Selective License 36 of my houses in the area Nottingham Council chose.
I paid some web guys to help me & Tues we did 18 of them.
Now this is the biggest credit card purchase I have EVER put on my card in 1 day. In 20 years.
Now the credit card is max'd, there is no funds there now to pay for the kitchen. I have had to delay.
The Council & Licensing want to make houses better for the 21% of Bad Landlords, yet now the 79% of good Landlords houses are getting worse cause our funds & time are going on imbecile costs & requests & paperwork.

Given Mr Wilsons infamy I reckon he would have difficulty getting a plumber or gas engineer to visit - most likely for reasons that they don't want to work for him.
They have most likely signed up to 21st century civilisation while he is still trying to catch up.

Also in this century we call "pregnant ladies" - expectant mothers. Last time I heard that phrase was from my 5 year old nephew.
