Please see the response from Fergus Wilson to the article “Kent Landlord – Hero or Villain“:

“Hi, I have noted the Property118 article this morning.

Property 118 talks about Zealots. We call them Petty Little Hitlers (PLH).

A Council Officer can never be wrong. He is always right and when he is not right he is never wrong!

Ashford Council brought a case against me for no hot water for not acting quickly enough! The Council then had to withdraw the prosecution for not acting quick enough itself! It was out of time!

The Council then said we will set up a procedure to help if you cannot find a Gas Safety Engineer! Well what a great idea!

However, the reality is this. No one Answers the telephone. It turned out all three in the Chain of Command were on holiday at the same time!

So this is all about an Organizational Deficiency at the Council! It is nothing at all to do with Single Mums or Pregnant ladies!

I certainly never mentioned them and it is a total figment of the imagination of Journalists who do not apply the standards of journalism they should abide by and amend to the point where they focus on something that is untrue.

What the real issue is at the moment is the serious shortage of Gas Safety Engineers!

Joe Public things the term plumber and Gas Safety Engineer are interchangeable terms. They are not! Plumbers are in short supply but Gas Safety Engineers are in even shorter supply!

The Council says it has the answer and is there to help!

I am afraid it is Hot Air!

Fergus Wilson”

There isn’t only one ‘correct’ way to be. Or is it that only the very latest, à-la-mode phraseology is acceptable to you. I only see bigotry in your comments that Mr Wilson’s choice of words, reminiscent of the era he grew up in and deemed polite, have, seemingly, in your mind at least, caused you to draw prejudice conclusions.

Pregnant is precisely what they are.

Lady is a polite term for woman.

Only those hell-bent on piece-by-little-piece destroying even the words we use would pick up on such a thing.

Well said Luke.
The way some people think is beyond me.
I have a load of trolls following me on Twitter. And I don't even know how to use Twitter, they can say what they like.
Some people have a gripe with Landlords who did 16 hours a day years ago to better their life.
My only crime for these Trolls is that I've bought houses that they think I've took from working buyers. Last time I checked, these houses were too bad for people to get a mortgage & I house the homeless Housing Benefit who can't buy.

What's reported in the Daily Mail ( or Guardian, for that matter ) must surely be taken with the 'highest reverence for professional journalism,' - - - and obviously seriously flawed, biased and false. !
I think Mandy should set up a Plumbers call-out referral business 😉 -could probably take a small referral % from each of the plumbers ( providing they answer their phone & actually up within 4 days ) second thought, perhaps not that much to be made after all ;-)))

I am not prejudicial - why would I be prejudicial ? Was it not Mr Wilson who was cited as not taking Asians because they leave a smell of curry. How dare I make an inference from that . Was it not Mr Wilson who was discriminating against a social class ? Silly old me . I thought he was the bigot but all along it was me. What a naughty boy I am . I better give myself a spanking.

So let's extrapolate your hypothesis. I say " Pregnant Ladies" is incorrect and you say blah blah blah. I say its disrespectful . This aptitude comes with something called manners and sensitivity.

Presumably someone shortening the word Pakistani to P*** would be okay by you. - yeah right.

Mick - disappointing to say the least to have someone like yourself holding Mr Wilson as some benchmark.

Can we have less talk about Spanking please, lest we offend another group of people. 😉

ha ha.... 😊 very good.. I was sort of alluding to Basil Fawlty from the episode called "the builders" .

Depressing to see to contributors deemed credible landlords whose instinct should have been to distance themselves from an operator as Mr Wilson to align themselves with anything he has to say.

What seems lost on them is irrespective of how bias the media maybe , and on balance we have a pretty good span and breadth of reporting, to acquire notoriety as Mr Wilson has , you have to be doing something wrong. And he doesn't half court controversy.
And he is out of line.
And then to boots, if you bring this up you are apparently trolling.

Maybe Donald Trump is right and its all fake news.

I'm not holding as benchmark.

I'm referring to what seems a silly rule (although mean't with good intentions by the council), but us with feet on the ground who ACTUALLY know about renting houses & boilers & plumbers etc. Some of these rules can backfire on them.
As is happening in Nottingham now with some of their rules.
Text of one of my cases regarding JUST ONE of these rules Nottingham Council want to bring in. The actual Council wording is £50 charge to Landlord:

One of my most recent questions which hasn't been answered is Licensing fining the tenant £50 for not being in when Landlord & Inspector turns up. How they paying it out their Income Support? Are Licensing expecting them to not buy food for the week & starve?
Landlord turned up.
Inspector turned up.
But tenant hasn't.
And u billing Landlord are you?

Please don't tell me Landlord gets billed for it 'cause in real world, he ain't paying if it's the tenants fault-WHICH TENANTS DO ON A REGULAR BASIS!! Except now Licensing is here, they starve. Wish I could charge £50 every time a Tenant lets me down, I'd be retired now living in Seychelles.
We now gonna' be getting rid of our unreliable tenants.

You’ve got Mr Wilson’s own words above. He said he never mentioned single mothers…it is the media that have twisted things because they have to keep up the image they’ve already given him.

Make the statement , get caught in the backlash , deny it and claim it as fake news. I believe there is an American president in situ that has mastered this art.
I was following Mr Wilson s exploits across the array of media coverage at the time of his rise to notoriety. At the time he was relishing it. I can see why a council would be tough on him specifically - he is by todays standards on the spectrum the type of landlord society does not want. An embarrassing if not offensive relic from the past .
