Cash rich and nowhere to live

After joining the EU in 2007 Romanian had UK work restrictions lifted 1st January, 2014 so their citizens were allowed to work in England 12 months of the year. Many started in the Horticultural Industry, and worked all hours under the sun.

Fast forward five years and there is a much larger percentage with contracted full time employment moving from Zero Hours contracts, with no guaranteed income. Hence, if they are looking to rent the Agent  is able to purchase a Rent Guarantee product from an Insurance Company. No Insurance Company will underwrite a Zero Hours Contract Worker. It makes no difference if you turn up with pockets bulging with cash.

If HM Government decides to provide an Insurance Product that is a matter for those in Whitehall, but they should be aware that the Rent Insurer takes just one hour to approve or decline an application. It is no good HM Government saying we are short of staff and it will take four weeks to process.

The Delivery has to be immediate (by which I mean one hour).

I came out of Housing Benefit in 2014. A young lady and toddler wanted a house and the Council was to provide a Deposit Bond. However, it was to be four weeks before the Council would be able to process the application.

I let the house to a working couple with a Rent Guarantee!

That is the Real World!

Yes I got that quite often with the Council guarantee bonds. They'd take days to do the paperwork and I'd say I can move 5 tenants in that time.
I think they are now upping their game though (In Nottingham).

I'd rather rent to someone hardworking than someone on benefits any day, and it would be hypocritical of me to complain about EU citizens working here when I am about to go off to work in France and Italy .

Mick, I saw a recent documentary and have also read reports in the papers about how there are fields of fruit and veg that are going rotten because of a shortage of 'Eastern Block' labour and unwillingness of our own unskilled to do this kind of work!

Yes, I've seen and heard similar. Dafodil farms in Cornwall struggling to recruit Eastern European labour due to the fall in value of the pound and general unwillingness of locals to do back breaking low paid jobs.
I think the UK will find out very soon we were much better off for having EU residents in the workforce than without.

Yes the same with the car washes too. My mate owns one and finding good staff not easy. The English young lads last 1 day.

No work (when available), no benefit should be the rule of the DWP.

That, inevitably, will treat many of the symptoms but, given the ever increasing structural disaster of first world countries, will only temporarily reduce the underlying problem.

My brilliant, helpful, cost-effective painter/decorator went back to Romania this week having been offered a job as an engineer in the industry he was in before he came to the UK almost 5 years ago. He had been on a zero hours contract with a UK window-fitting company and all the foreign fitters were given the worst jobs.
