Gavin Barwell, hits out on Buy To Let Landlords….government is now planning to introduce “GUILT TAX ” on Buy To Let Landlords as they are accused of crowding out first time buyers. In order to compensate first time buyers… Details in link. (This is likely to be part of Housing White Paper)
Happy New Year Mr Barwell.

That story is aimed at people who have second homes that are hardly lived in crowding out FTB and creating quiet communities. it’s happening in the Lake District local people cannot buy houses because of the amount of second homes that lie empty most of the time I have some sympathy to be honest

The way I read it, this makes a reference to BTL properties in general. The terminology “second homes” was also used by George Osborne when he introduced 3% surcharge on BTL properties as he used the words “second homes” as opposed to BTL properties coupled with HMRC using exactly the same terminology.

I agree with NWL, this is not about BTL but about getting more housing built for locals.
Although if they are serious about boosting supply, the current attack on landlords providing homes is a strange way to go about it. If anything, they are encouraging residential landlords to switch to holiday lets.

Fortunately you do not have to make anything up – this government is doing it all for you.

Actually, in many cases with holiday lets they have been created by the owner. For example, when old sheds, barns and derelict houses have built/gutted and renovated and so on. Without the owner who runs the holiday let business the houses would not have existed. They haven’t stolen them from locals. In fact, they invest tens or hundreds of thousands of their own money and they bring business and employment to the local areas.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the current comments being made by Gavin Barwell are a precursor to an assault on this sector and even an extension of Section 24 to it. In some areas I believe they charge twice the council tax for these owners, when the latter use hardly any of the local services. They should get a discount not a doubling of the rate. It’s pandering to the politics of envy and to ignorance of the sector as is the way at the moment.

Gavin Barwell?
Housing Minister?
What the hell is he good for?
He looks like a history teacher getting on a school bus after losing 3 kids at the zoo.
In fact, why do we have a Housing Minister anyway? – they just cock it up.
Grant Shapps?
Whatever happened to him?
Rentsmart Wales? – it’s a total bloody disaster
There is now officially about 70,000 criminal landlords who are not yet licensed in Wales and 9 enforcement officers for a whole bloody country!!
Selective Licensing? – oh the rogue landlords are fleeing the market, oh silly me they aren’t, in fact there are now officially more of them.
Barnsley Council now going selective – the result? – rent rises and more unlicensed rogue landlords on the cards.
Liverpool – Selective Licensing? – rents going up, corporate rental units lying vacant.
Section 24? – rent rises coming…..
mass panic when amateur landlords become Higher Rate Taxpayers on £30,000 salary, followed by more each year.
1st Jan rule BTL criteria changes? The result? – rent rises
Unmortgageable potential rental properties available all over the North that can’t be financed because the rents are now too low.
It’s all going a bit mental –
Next – Mandatory licensing for small HMO’s
(The NIMBYS charter)
Next – Minimum Room sizes, millions of properties will officially become 1 bedroom smaller by default as box rooms are redesignated as airing cupboards with windows.
The answer is prepackaged houses from China.
What an academical fu*ckw*t
Happy New Year!
