How on earth is 'tenants being made homeless' an overstatement? Of course they'll be made homeless. What do you think is going to happen? Is the Landlords going to say "Here's the key's, it's all yours''?

However there are two points on which we agree:
1. That probably is exactly the way Government is thinking because they seldom get into detail on a new policy. We've so many cock-ups because of that - Universal Credit to name but one.

2. There will be the same number of houses before it blows up as there will be when the dust settles. In other words house building will have stopped because the builders will have no confidence in making a profit.

The recovery of the economy has been largely due to the upsurge in house buying which in turn has boosted the building. Builders have been able to rely on 15% of the market going to BTL. They now can't and I don't mean in two years time, I mean now. Watch the figures on building houses because they'll be heading south again. That will knock on fast to the rest of the economy and here we go again.... boom and bust.

We are in agreement John - what I stated was what I thought the Govt were thinking and I think your logic is spot on.

The problem is, if the govt thinks this will solve a problem and generate some tax revenue, there is a lot to do to change that view - especially as it is now fully announced...

I've posted the link to the petition on the Facebook page of Crisis, the homeless charity, urging people to sign to prevent rent rises and evictions.

I hope admin people leave it there. I also messaged the admin team with a short explanation.

Property118 was not mentioned, so if there is a backlash it's just an individual to blame.

Hi John

BTL buyers took a much higher proportion than 15 % of new-builds.

City A M http://www.cityam.com/220861/bashing-buy-let-landlords-will-push-rents-and-hit-uk-economy-hard

quotes the chairman of the RLA saying:

“Between 1986 and 2012, 57 per cent of all new dwellings created were private homes to rent, the majority of which were by individual landlords providing vital houses for those requiring accommodation, especially those needing to move for work or study. These homes were not “taken” from those who wished to buy.”

Just set her straight by encouraging her to circulate the petition link or to post it on her website. Explain that this would be helpful indeed.

Has anyone written to Jeremy Corbyn yet?

Hi Connie,
If I can get pass through the ill trained, demotivated staff. I can ask her to do what you have suggested. The person that replied to me lacked the capacity to not ever understand my letter & thought that I was asking for her help.

I don't think Jeremy Corbyn is our man . If has his way he will nationalise all our properties along with the utility companies, surface train and anything else that he can besides pubs where he can drink Vodka with his comrades.
