Has anyone written to ARLA?

http://www.arla.co.uk/

They could promote the petition to their members.

Mark Shine - Of course it is just the start of the debate and I'll have a chat with anyone about it. But the solution is still the same - rents will have to go up. The sooner and louder we publicly shout that, the better for all. Landlords need to put up rents in an organised fashion. This is not unfair collaboration it is unilaterial reaction to taxation.

With a chancellor who is only just 43 years old, who has the 17th Baronet as a sire, being disliked comes naturally. His future is assured - he will become the 18th Baronet aint noting we can do to upset his grave train. This chap boldly dictates 40% cuts at major government departments, massive cuts in benefits. Do we really think that a few thousand pissed off landlords, who’d like a debate about fair taxation, will bother him or change his mind? We are the small fish here and the fisherman has just been given a thumping mandate for 5 years and he fishes with hand grenades. The economic noise is not and will not be about us or fairness of taxation where we are concerned. I love a chat but I don’t want a debate I want my business and my future. And to get that, I will hike the rents and you should too.

We are the market - We are the pressure, as we are the rent setters and we will not tolerate the loss. We simply can’t wear the loss. The market will pay the rents we set - or there will be homeless people. Homeless people get in the paper - pissed of landlords do not!

I don’t know what “I suspect there may be significant upward pressure on rents, but that will be dictated by future market dynamics” means, as a set of words in jargon parlance. But the literal meaning of the words you use is: “I have no idea what will happen with rents but if I only say, I suspected, then I can’t get caught for calling it wrong. I have no hope of effecting my future it but I am happy to let others decide the outcome and I will, abide - as long as I can have a chat about it”. It is wrong... don't suspect - act. Don't wait for others - Lead.

I love the notion / vision of you and your chap with his “little job at the treasury” having a very civil gentlemanly little Tete-a-tete about your predicament of course, following the protocol and probably over a cup of tea. The reality is though, that only when he has 40 families camped at his surgery waiting to “tear him a new one” and demanding he house them, will he actually do anything.

We do need to stop the proposal becoming law and but we need to be very clear and very loud as to why. The message is “Kill the stupid idea Mr Chancellor or we will be forced to increase rents by 25%+ to cover the cost you have imposed on us and you’ll have to deal with the fall to from that.”

Hi BTL.
Just had a quick glance and can see she needs some serious re-educating... Emails from a few of us tomorrow would be a good move. I'm game and will add to list now. Nos da (good night)

The French manage to get the 100,000 signature in a week or so. The petition was against the closure of a public beach due to security reasons while the Saudi king was having his three weeks holidays.

I think we should be able to get the number up to 100,000 for our petition which is not for three weeks and could affect our three generation.

Please ask all & sundry. They don't have to be a BTL landlords
