I have had a response from my MP. She had disclosed that she has personal interest in buy to let as she has two BTL properties. I assume that she has declared this in the MP register of interest.

She has asked me to list my concerns in order that she can raise them with the Treasury Minister Mr David Gauke for his comments.

I am listing them for her in a generic form besides my own concerns I am also listing various concerns that I have picked up from the forum..

Could the letter – Q&A – that BTL IS has created be presented? With BTL IS’s permission, of course? Just a suggestion as it has many examples of how different landlords will be affected.

Stewart. You are cooking with gas! I think this could be an excellent idea. We just need someone now to come forward who is one of his constituents. Mind, will he allow non-constituents to see him??

    Hi Monty.
Well, tell him to pin back his ears and listen to the facts. Especially the statement from the IFS that landlords pay more tax already than owner-occupiers and especially the new regime under which a person’s tax liability could become infinite, regardless of income. I think a drink down the pub sounds the way to go!

IMPORTANT: JOINT STATEMENT FROM RUHAL AND ROS REGARDING THE PETITION

    Hi all.
Mark, Ruhal and I have given the matter great thought and we have decided to go with Ruhal’s petition.
Mark will be issuing the link at approximately 2 o’ clock today.
(for those of us fond of the wording in the second petition, I will copy the text over later, so that it can still be used, in emails where appropriate, to promote THE PETITION.)
This is going to be very exciting and we must all get behind it and promote it wherever we can.
    Ros and Ruhal.

Sharing comments received today from the Chartered Institute of Taxation:

Thank you for your enquiry via the website. We welcome comments and queries that bring to light anomalies in or problems with tax law or administration including the provisions of the Finance Bill. CIOT members have raised some issues around the operation of clause 24 particularly in relation to its application to trusts. Please do let us know of your specific concerns.

It may be helpful to provide a little background to the way the CIOT works. One of our key aims is to work for a better, more efficient, tax system for all affected by it – taxpayers, their advisers and the authorities. The CIOT draws on our members’ experience in private practice, commerce and industry, government and academia to improve tax administration and to propose and explain how tax policy objectives can most effectively be achieved. Our focus is therefore on the way in which the policy is implemented rather than challenging the underlying policy’s decision.
