Two Property118 members have pointed out that Shelter are actually asking for views from Landlords and have produced a survey to complete: Click Here.

The request from Shelter states: “Take our survey to help us understand what’s important to you and how we can best work together towards developing a better private rental sector. Answers are completely anonymised.”

Questions include:

  • What were your motivations for becoming a landlord?
  • What are the best things about being a landlord?
  • What are the main challenges you face as a landlord?
  • How would you describe your relationship with your tenants?
  • How do you think Shelter can work better with landlords?
  • What has been your experience of Shelter?

We all hope this can be used as a positive step for Shelter and the PRS to start working together as opposed to against each other to the benefit of tenants.

I made some comments to Shelter on Twitter a couple of days ago, including asking why they are seeking our views, having spent the last year vilifying landlords and encouraging those people who label us f..... parasites.
The survey asks a lot of questions to help them gather info on landlord demographics - why do they need this? That info is easily available and routinely published by the RLA and NLA.
The questions about how landlords view Shelter are - well - interesting!

I have completed it and offered to provide additional feedback. If Shelter engage with us, they will discover we don't all have horns and a tail and belch sulphur.

No time to complete today, but I will definitely do it. I think it is worth putting our views forward.
Saying that I concur with Annie Landlord asking why suddenly that change of attitude? Or what is behind that really?

It takes all of two minutes, mainly multiple choice answers so very little typing required

Thank you Mark - done. Indeed very quick and easy
I have also put some comment in the boxes provided for option 'OTHER'.
I was surprised that there were options which were negative for Shelter!

I’ve also completed and offered feedback. We need to be direct, but let’s all keep it civil and constructive - we don’t need rants or bad language.

Am I the only sceptical one. I wouldn't mind betting it is Shelters way of getting dirt on us.

Like a journalist use our responses and spin the results to once again make the industry look bad.

My suggestion is, rather than "throw the book at them" let's try and be bigger and provide quality sensible balanced feedback.
