Renters’ Rights Act – Just a coverup?
The Renters’ Rights Act, what a joke. Who is this in favour of? Not the renters, that’s for sure.
I had a 3-year tenancy which still had 12 months to go, so of course I felt safe. However, the introduction of the Renters’ Rights Act has totally destroyed my security. Now, my landlord has been scared off by this and issued a section 8 eviction notice, as he has decided to sell, which he would not have done had it not been for this bill.
Now I have to find somewhere else to rent, unfortunately, as this is a shrinking market, it has made it almost impossible to find anywhere within a 50-mile radius of my current location.
The pressure and stress this has placed on me is not in my favour and has probably been the issue for tens of thousands of tenants.
Just another FAT CAT act only for the big players, Black Rock, etc.
Edward

I sympathise with your situation which is also happening to a lot of other tenants. The RRA is a disaster for both Tenants and Landlords, though Landlords have a slight advantage in that they can bail out

Contact Shelter or Generation Rent and ask them for advice.

It is more of a smoke screen to hide the rise in the non working and low paid population. Far easier to blame landlords and second home owners than address the core issues of low pay, insecurity and globalisation which might be blamed on politicians.

Edward I synpathhize with your plight and it is a shame that Shelter, generation rent et al were so blinkered they failed to understand the consequences of their actions.

That is the harsh financial reality Edward, and sadly for you I cannot see anyway back.
Have you contacted any of those groups that are celebrating your homelessness?
I am sure your actual experience will be buried.
I am keeping my lovely tenants happy at the moment but ultimately who know where we are going to be very shortly.

As has been the case for years, naive anti-landlord ideology has driven policy at local and national level. Many have said for years, that the ultimate losers will be tenants. That fact is coming home to roost now ( we are now getting 50+ applications per property despite increased rents and tighter letting criteria. 60% say existing landlord selling! Mr Pennycook still misleading the public though ). Unfortunately, those in power hate landlords more than they care about tenants, so no light at the end of the tunnel. It was blindingly obvious that those looking for a new tenancy would be subject to much greater scrutiny, and be the true victims of this debacle.
