Putting pressure on your Conservative MP

Putting pressure on your Conservative MP

Here’s a letter template for you.

Dear ……..,

For the first time, as a long-time supporter and member of the Conservative Party, I am struggling for a reason to vote Conservative!

I would never even in my worst nightmare ever believe that a Conservative Government would wage such punitive attacks on small Landlords, without any consultation, and so brazenly unfair by taxing Landlords on fictitious profit, & excluding the wealthiest Landlords and corporations owning properties from this tax. It also goes against the Conservative manifesto pledge that was made just a few weeks earlier than the Budget announcement not to raise Income Tax. I was also disappointed with the rather lukewarm support that I received from you personally over this matter.

In reality though, it is not Landlords who will suffer the most under this measure but it will be the poorest in our society who will be facing steep rent rises, eviction and in many cases homelessness (putting more pressure on already cash strapped local Councils). This a stealth tax of the worst kind.

The principle in question is that of “trust”. Can I trust that the Conservative Party will correct this injustice and will not introduce even more punitive measures and burdens on the private rented sector, PRS?

I await your response

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, the above would assume that 1) I would support/be a member of the Conservative party and b) I would contemplate voting for them.

Both of which I wouldn't.

Plus I'm fortunate not to have a Tory MP.

Good luck though

i have said this many times--the tories in parliament are not Conservative--more like social democrats or, if you like, blue labor. there is virtually no difference between the 3 main parties. i left tory party after boydave was appointed and have voted UKIP ever since and will do so again in June 2017 and beyond

Received the following reply to my email above:

Thank you. I appreciate the Osborne changes did not help your business and I regret that. However, on the second point, I'm not convinced they will further impoverish poorer people for reasons we have rehearsed. Time will tell.
You will have to decide whether Mrs May or Mr Corbyn is likely to best suit your interests.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Sent today to my conservative MP. I have added a few facts for her to see - she was not exactly supportive previously.
Very safe Tory seat, so she will most probably ignore it, but I will post here the update.

I just wonder if people on this forum keep sending letters to their MPs? I guess the more pressure from our side the better.

Ive sent numerous emails to my MP and received from the Treasury their stock replies. The latest response that a few of us have also received is a stonewalling reply saying " nothing further to add to previous responses".

I will be complaining to my MP about this, but because of the General Election he's technically no longer an MP once Parliament is dissolved

I do not expect anything special, however I specifically asked her to provide HER OWN opinion and NOT TO send me any standard letters from the Gov/Treasury.
Let's see. But as I say, I do not hold my breath, she really does not care how the LLs vote, having an overwhelming Tory majority for years. I however pointed out that the Tenants know who they should thank for rent increase letter.

I have a letter to my local conservative candidate in a key marginal (labour took the seat from the Tories with just 257 votes last time) cued up ready to go but I would like to add a link to the best page here on Property118 to educate and advise a prospective future MP on the issues before I fire it off.

Any suggestions please?

I am after identifying the one "best" page as I want to try not to overwhelm her too much.

Ideally the page will cover all the issues - not just the Section 24 stuff 9although this is by far the most important of course).

Hi - I actually posted the link to Ros Report, however I added that I would be happy to support my arguments with more links if necessary (of course no fat chance she will ever ask).
Good luck!
If you hear anything back from her, could you please post that here, for benefit of all of us?
Thanks!

I am a landlord of 1 small property. I am a good landlord have kept the property up to standard and have always done anything the tenant asked for. I have had the present tenant over 7 years.
2 years ago he started to get into arrears. He told my estate agent that he had home difficulties and would be able to catch up within a few months. He did for a pay extra for a few months but then started to get further behind. He was given plenty of chances but still got further into arrears he finally reaches over 2 months in arrears and was given notice to quit in June last year. He has paid no further rent since. We applied to the court in September for an accelerated possession order and was given a date in December. When we were at the hearing the Judge threw it out straight away because he thought the “Tenancy deposit protection Certificate” stating on or AFTER the 10th Oct 2014 was invalid.
This is the usual certificate from the Dispute service Ltd and when we checked this with several solicitors and others was told by all that this is the common certificate that was normally dated for 5 years and thereafter and was in order. We then engaged solicitors to apply again for a possession order for being over 2 month in arrears and costs. The hearing took place on 17th March 2017 and the possession order was given to take effect 14 days after. The tenant still hadn’t left the property so I had to apply for bailiffs. I am still waiting for the courts to sanction this. We are now at the end of March. I am over 9 months rent owing plus all the legal fees the whole lot amounting to over 1 years rentals and still the tenant is in my property.
I really don’t want to go through with all this trouble again and am considering selling. How many other landlords are in the same position? This is another good reason why rentals are so scarce. Another point is that because of this loss of rental
there is no tax to pay another loss to taxpayers in general.

Alan, I really sympathise with your situation, but - with all due respect - your comment should be, I think, in a different thread.
Our MPs will not pay attention to these individual details (sadly, perhaps if they could, they will have a better orientation).
