Feedback on our new website design please

This time last week we unveiled a fresh Property118 website design and new functionality to improve Navigation, searching and the general user experience.

One of the new features we have added is a ‘hover-over’ function which appears when your mouse cursor is placed over a members name or Avatar. The date of when the member joined Property118 and how many comments they have posted to date is then displayed. We think this will be particularly useful to established members who like to report inappropriate comments. Sadly, some people join forums and post antagonistic comments to wind people up. For some reason they get a kick out of it! Where such comments are reported a view is then taken by moderators on whether to remove the offending comment, and in extreme cases to expel the member and block their IP address so that they are unable to create a membership profile using an different name and email account.

Inevitably there were a few initial ‘bug-fixes’ to deal with when we first launched the new website and we are extremely grateful to members who took the time and effort to point these out to us. Hopefully, these have now all been resolved. We hope you will agree that the text font is now much easier to read for example, and to make bigger for those with less than 20:20 vision. Other fixes were to ensure that comment links pointed directly to the associated comment as opposed to the article and that login issues were resolved. We are still working on some image cropping issues.

There may still be things you spot which are slightly annoying or could be improved upon further, hence we would very much like you to tell us what these are.

Please leave comments below and rest assured that we take all user feedback very seriously and will do whatever we can to continue to improve your user experience.

Daily Newsletters were paused whilst we were ‘bug-fixing’ but will now resume for those who were previously receiving them and for all new members.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The new design looks fresh, and easy on the eyes without overloading the page. Good to see a list of headed discussions on one side of the page. On the downside, when I posted a query for legal advice assistance earlier today, I found the 'robot' very irritating, having been instructed to click on a number of images to confirm what I could see matched the original request. It also felt patronising having to go through the whole process again when I had accidentally missed out information in one of the boxes marked with an asterik (e.g. telephone number - which is not always applicable for some users who cannot use a telephone for disability reasons but are 'forced' to insert a number regardless, please could this be noted to enable 'no phone' is accepted. Hope this makes sense. Thank you

Hello Badger (and all)

You might have noticed that we now have a new forum page layout >>> https://www.property118.com/discussions-forum/ which enables you to see far more content with less scrolling. depending on your screen size, you will see one, two or three columns on the page.

Mid next month we will also be adding further navigation buttons into the top of the floating right side panel, just above popular discussions. These will link to the Forum, our Latest News / Homepage dashboard and our Events section. There will also be another button to a new page but the content of that new page is Top secret for now.

Your ideas in regards to threaded comments will take some time to sort out but the fixes we did a month or so back with regards to commenting have been very well received by those who were affected in the same way as you were. It turns out that the issue you were having affected only a handful of people who had deleted their Avatar. The reason the system kept throwing you back to your Member Profile page every time you left a comment is that it thought you had forgotten to complete an Avatar upload. If you'd have added a Avatar the issue would have gone away. Anyhow, that's now sorted and we are very grateful for your feedback. Please keep it coming if you can think of any other improvements.

Hi Mark
Its great that so many more topics are shown. But I'm only seeing (on a PC with a 27" monitor) one column on the left which only covers about 1/4 to 1/3 of the white page area, the headings are truncated to the stage of being a guessing game. e.g "Freeholder repossessed and done a..." also the latest comment text confusingly appears closest to and just above the following topic heading .

I suspect your PC cache has got stuck. Please press ctrl + the F5 key at the top of your keyboard and let me know if that fixes it.

I see three columns but almost all the headings are truncated so you can't really tell what the discussions are about (unless the title is really short). It would be more useful to dump the graphics and show the whole title.

Point noted on truncated post titles though.

I have reported this to our web-developers and asked them to sort this.
