New Landlord Association seeking pledges

For the past 18 months, I have mulled over the idea of setting up a new National Landlords association. I won’t bore readers to death explaining why. We all know how frustrated and sickened the community is with the other main associations failing to aggressively fight our corner and instead assist the councils implementing their rotten Selective licensing schemes. Enough is enough.
We could talk forever, but it is now time for action. I have held off taking this leap in the hope that somebody else would take up the baton. I completely understand the reluctance of anybody to get involved. Mark summed it up. A most time consuming venture.
As things stand now, the show is almost ready for the road.
I have set up the National Landlords Alliance. Before I go any further if the National Landlords Association wish to take issue with the National Landlords alliance, I say bring it on. Do it now.
Moving on Banking facilities are in place. I am prepared to act as CEO without salary initially to get the organisation up and running. The organisation will operate out of offices supplied by me on a rent free basis, until profitability can be achieved.
I have a PR/Secretary lined up who will join us subject to salary discussions. She has experience in the industry as well as a journalism degree and lobbying experience.
Following extensive negotiations over several weeks I have got agreement from the former National Chair of the FSB to also join us. Mr Allan has extensive lobbying experience including vast experience gained from negotiating with the former PM Cameron and Osborne, as well as dealing with the devolved Governments of Scotland ,Wales and NI. This would complete the team initially.
I also have organised a preferred solicitor to assist members. The individual I have in mind is a former local authority prosecutor.
We will not be selling courses or cheap smoke detectors. We will absolutely never assist councils implementing any scheme to the detriment of landlords. As regards document downloads, they are available from other sources.
We will be 100% focused on aggressively fighting the Landlords corner.
The fee to join would be £100 pa.
At this stage all I seek is pledges.
If the figures are right we are good to go. A word of caution however,and I don’t mean to insult regular contributors, but at this stage our biggest enemy is Apathy.
If we can get the pledges ie a min of 1000 members we have a new organisation.

Just to add my tuppence worth,. Yes Larry, IF it’s a serious organisation you are proposing that challenges the multiple ?s and BS that the H8Rs repeatedly spout, u have my support. However I would like to think that the alliance u are proposing will be an intelligent one, that will challenge the H8Rs bs with simple logic & facts rather than just using the same tactics they repeatedly use ie hyperbole, propoganda and anecdotal ‘evidence’ as well as irrationally or inadvertently bigging up ‘incorporated’ LLs as they always seem to do for no apparent reason?

See what we can do. No more selling silly courses, pussyfooting around Councils. We will represent Landlords . Get out of the way NLA/RLA.

Larry,
You have probably thought of this already, but what I think we need asap is a press release sent to all major news outlets. What they pick up on is conflict, not the “aren’t we nice” / “we are misunderstood” type of thing that NLA/RLA do.
Something like:
“LANDLORDS FIGHT BACK
Fed up with the unwillingness or inability of established organisations such as NLA and RLA to stand up against anti-landlord propaganda from organisations such as Shelter and politicians seeking a populist sound bite, landlords across the country are uniting to form an organisation with the remit of aggressively countering uninformed, and ultimately harmful to tenants, anti-landlord rhetoric.
This organisation will not capitulate to Shelter, etc., over issues such as why landlords do not want to take on benefits recipients in the way that mainstream organisations have recently done.”
Then go on to give the arguments about
– selective licencing schemes with unlawful conditions (note NOT illegal)
– Universal Credit
– Anti-landlord brigade having attacked LLs for taking housing benefit are now attacking them for not taking HB.
– No DSS helps prospective tenants by avoiding agent fees when they ave no chance of getting the property
– Shelter are demonising all LLs when their stated aim is to help tenants, so should be working with and encouraging good landlords and tackling the real issues which are the Governments lack of provision of social housing and lack of funding to tackle criminal landlords.
– the West Brom saga.
-other things that are relevant.
Also include a bit a bout ‘working with property 118’.
I’m sure he people you have lined up can put together a good press release and get it to the right pepla.
