DSS Tenants – does this video say it all?

I am a landlord specialising in renting to DSS Tenants – ask me anything 🙂

Update

You may remember the video’s I shared with you back in June and November? Well this is what the place I video’d in November looks like now, just three weeks later …

My original video’s from June and November are below.

Some people think I’m must be crazy to accept benefits tenants. Well maybe I am but it works for me and I have dozens of very happy tenants and a waiting list as long as your arm for my properties. I have no voids and never need to advertise. In short, this video does not tell the full story but I am happy to to tell you mine if you care to ask 🙂

Looking forward to reading and responding to your comments.

@Joe bloggs
I will take that as a 'No' then.

Offering advice and support is great but personal attacks serve no purpose on this sort of forum.

ray
you can assume what you like. im not the one bragging how clever i am abdicating my responsibilities to tenants to dispose of rubbish. its perfectly clear that this is not moral or legal. i hope you have the misfortune of having rubbish dumped in your area. and pointing out the law to a lawbreaker is valid and fair comment.

Vanessa, that is grossly unfair. You telephoned me and told me that you were ashamed to be a landlord after watching Micks video and that I was feeding Shelters argument for regulation by allowing it on my website. I said that I knew Mick and that you should engage with him as he has a very different business model to you and I. What I didn't ask you to do is post a separate thread on Property Tribes to drum up support them come here all guns blazing. Are you still ashamed to be a landlord as per the title of your thread showing Micks video on PT?

@joe bloggs,
Nice and thoughtful!

I rest my point about aggression and personal attacks!

@ Mark Alexander,
Now I realise why this thread took a downturn! I used to frequent Property Tribes but this sort of posting was the reason i stopped going there a couple or so years ago. I found little to help or inform me or what was there was soured by point scoring and back-biting that it made a painfull excercise to find it.

Hopefully you can keep this forum clear of that sort of thing.

Believe it not Ray, Nick and Vanessa and are very good friends with my wife and I to the extent we often take weekend breaks away together. We had a difference of opinion about this thread but friends are allowed to disagree. There was a group of trouble makers on PT at one time but fortunately they have either lost interest and moved on. I rate the PT website very highly and still frequent it. You may wish to give it another try as its very different to what it was a year ago and there are some very clued up landlords posting there now too

Hi Mark,

I have apologised to Mick both here and on Property Tribes.

All guns blazing? No, just not understanding a certain sector of the market, which, now thanks to Mick and JC, I have a better understanding of.

That is the value of discussions like this.

As for Property Tribes, and Ray's comments, we had a small number of troublemakers on there who caused most of the problems. Thankfully they have now moved on to other groups and are causing trouble there!

As Property Tribes does not have a sales agenda, there will be challenges of claims made and that is healthy for everyone to learn and grow and avoid the pitfalls and sharks. It's a shame if you think that is unhealthy. We have a zero tolerance to defamatory remarks and personal abuse and the wealth of information and content shared there is second to none.

Thanks for your support Mark, rightbackatya.

Mark,
Maybe I will take new look at PT then I just found it full of higher than thou attitudes and negative viewpoints. There was little to motivate anyone in the industry to actually get on with it but maybe as you say it has changed for the better.

First post !

I dont accept DSS tenants apart from those who become DSS tenants due to circumstances mid tenancy. Renting is a risk/reward business for me and the horror stories that I see about DSS tenants far outweigh the bad stuff about self supporters. I have to say however that every picture or in this instance video tells a story and cant help\ wondering the story of what sort of lifestyle went on in the house before the tenant leaving.

Bikes, furniture, beds, kids toys etc not taken make me think that this place was abandoned on the hurry up. The nosy parker in me asks if the parent in the house was the subject of a violent domestic situation that finally ended it a bolt for safety situation.

If this was or is even near the case it might give rise to an explanation for what has happened here and a reminder that these situations can happen anywhere, even in my non DSS tenancies.
