Still a bit grey in my mind. If you outsource absolutely everything but you have a financial interest in the business then you are basically a shareholder. And holding shares is an investment.
But this is only a feeling about principals, I have no idea about the legal definitions (and the implications of those legal definitions on what we are trying to achieve here).

Greg,
I am amazed with the comments you have made. Buy To Let business supports economy, as well as good employment opportunities together with much needed accommodation which government would have been unable to do.
No every individual who rents would like to buy a property. Generally speaking, people who rent are either contract workers, immigrants and who have yet to establish their status in UK before they are able to buy property or finally those who do not have sufficient funding to pay for deposit required by a lender.
The notion that buy to let investors have distorted the market is well and truly deluded. As a matter of fact, buy to let property investors have made market more vibrant which in return made lenders balance sheets healthier and if you remember “ECONOMY THRIVES IN RISING HOUSING MARKET!

Greg. I do consider a business and you are right, I have to roll with the punches – and I will. As I said in an earlier post, this is Route 101 economics “he hit me so I have to hit you” thats business. I am realistic enough to know that I won’t get a sympathy so I don’t and haven’t asked for any. You’re about as interested in my plight as I am in your opinion. That’s not rude that’s just the truth – I get it!.
However the Butcher the Baker the candlestick maker, the dry cleaner and all the people you mention will surely feel the pressure when the people that own the property they use for business, or to live in, get whacked with the same stick the chancellor has just whacked us with, & they have their rents put up.
One day if you work very hard and save a lot, maybe even you can scrape together enough of your own money to put the deposit down on a buy to let property. When you see hundreds of thousands of pounds of your own money invested, with finance of course, into a property and you have the risk and concern for the property and its tenants I think you’ll understand. I can see that you don’t understand. You are either very very rich or very very ignorant or very very jealous… its okay. I don’t mind I don’t ask for or need your understanding.
I am very clear – Put the rent up, put the rent up, put the rents up. I do though, think it is very sad as I don’t think we as society really need to hit each other’s pocket all of the time in this way. However as you say, Business is business and if my costs have gone up so my customers costs must go up & that’s just the way it is.
There is not one mention of seeking understanding of my position. I understand your point but you’re wrong! It is a business and I will roll with the punches and I will put the rent up and let the chips fall where they may! I only hope that you don’t have any rental property reliance in your life at home or via your children with or loved ones, in your business or with your employer because I am sure you will be next.
(Actually the last bit is a lie. I kind of do really hope you do have rental reliance in your life and your landlord puts your rents up so you feel it)

A business cannot outsource ultimate accountability, neither can a landlord. Therefore we are businesses in my humble opinion.

I have friends who own a clothing business in Ebbw Vale, providing many jobs to the local economy. A few years ago they emigrated to New Zealand, leaving a manager in charge and one of them comes back every few months for a couple of weeks to monitor it. Is it no longer a business?

I just had an email from private sector housing at Caerphilly Council who agreed to and then sent out my email with petition link to all the landlords on the database in the county.
