Am I entitled to a refund

Am I entitled to a refund

Hi Guys – I have been a tenant in this property for 2.5 years – I was just coming up to my tenancy renewal – when I was informed that the landlord will be selling, I was then served with a section 21 notice .

I have now been told that I need to be out of the property by the 25th Sep

In the area where I live rental properties are very very hard to come by – I have now found something I like.

I spoke with the agency – who verbally told me that the LL would be happy for me to vacate the property on the 18th of August – I totally forgot to get this in writing. Based on what was discussed over the phone, I have told my new landlord I could move in by the 11th August – and hand the keys back (after a professional clean ) on the 18th has agreed above.

I have now emailed the the agent, and have been told that the LL is unhappy about this and will not be refunding me for the rest of the month 18th – 25th this should be around £430.

Am I able to get a refund or would this be dead in the water – I have honestly loved living there and have been quite frankly a model tenant – in fact I would buy the place if he wasn’t asking a crazy amount for the place.

Any help or advice on what to go back with would be great

Thank you so much

Zozo

If you find that offensive that your problem not mine. My conscience is clear and what anybody else thinks about me is none of my business.

Property118 is what it is so if it's not for you just because we help tenants then so be it. By all means start you own forum or visit another one.

Reply to the comment left by Chris Baker at 12/08/2017 - 16:53By the way, we provide no services to tenants which can make us money but we do provide many services to landlords that do.

However, we save people significantly more than we earn and that's good business.

The reason we help tenants as well as landlords is that our relationships are symbiotic. The tenant supporting organisations fail to recognise that far too often. None of us should ever forget who our customers are, or do anything to sully the reputation of landlords. Turning our backs on cries for help from tenants who are being badly treated my misinformed or even landlords or agents would be doing just that.

We all know there are rogue tenants as well as rogue landlords.

I try to treat my tenants fairly, and with dignity and respect, so it's disappointing and frustrating when the law, an organisation, or an individual treats me like I am a rogue landlord. When this does happen though, it spurs me not to make the same mistake in return.

Polarising tenants and landlords creates an atmosphere of mutual mistrust that doesn't help anyone in the long run.

Support Mark's response and agree Property118 should not be representing "sides" but representing the best interest of both landlords and tenants.
