Landlords Alliance – Emergency Euro Elections Statement

The Landlords Alliance was set up to represent and fight for private landlords. We never planned or envisaged getting into politics; yet events have forced us to confront reality.

May’s failed administration wants to scrap Section 21s, which will create potential lifetime tenancies and prevent landlords from having control over their own property. Until and unless major changes are made firstly to the Section 8 process and the grossly inadequate court system, we cannot support this step.

It has become clear that the Government is not in fact interested in reforming the private rented sector in any positive way, but is rather chasing cheap headlines by pretending they are helping tenants.

In summary this useless Tory government is anti-business, anti-landlord and couldn’t care less about tenants on benefits, despite what they say. As from now we advise our Alliance members not to accept DSS tenants just as Shelter will not provide them with bonds. It is just too risky.

As of now, we do not know what policies the Brexit Party will have for the economy in general and the PRS in particular, but the signs are good and we are ready to give the Brexit Party a chance. After Thursday’s European elections we intend to approach the Brexit Party to solicit their support for the sector.

We urge landlords, their families and friends to respond in the strongest terms to the latest assault on the sector, with May’s announcement of the scrapping of Section 21. We will not stand by as property rights are annihilated.

I have spoken today to a landlord who has eight tenants who agree with him and who are going to vote for the Brexit Party on Thursday. They understand that this is an attack on landlords and tenants. Let’s get the Brexit Party over the line on Thursday. Then we are on new ground, as victory should give them momentum to win or hold the balance of power in a General Election.

Until now landlords have had no choice and nowhere to go. Perhaps that’s why the Tories thought they could take us for granted. Well, we now have a viable alternative, so they have grossly miscalculated.

If we get out Thursday and work with our tenants, we can give this rotten Tory party a good hiding. Let’s finally show this pathetic government that their campaign against us has hit the buffers.

They have destroyed their core constituency of voters and any prospect of Conservatives getting the tenant vote will dissolve when they are unable to find accommodation. We must explain to every DSS tenant that we turn away: THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT!

We urge all landlords to back Brexit Party candidates against Conservatives everywhere.

Yes, all the signs are that the Brexit Party is the only party likely to be supportive of the private rented sector. Nigel Farage made a point last week of referring to the need to support the country's entrepreneurs and sole traders. No-one else is talking in these terms.
It must also be remembered, that in exercising any protest vote against the Conservatives, it would be cutting your nose off to give any vote to a Labour Party whose proposed policies towards the private rented sector would decimate it. It would be rent controls and Right to Buy all the way from the Marxist clique at the top.

I have lost faith with all the MPs ability to think. The parliamentary voting system MP have chosen to use means any Brexit plan is predictably vetoed. NO-ONE has been brave enough to give MPs a list of all the possible Brexit outcomes on one piece of paper, get them to score them in order of preference and THEN submit them according to proportional representation rules!
An winner is guaranteed AND it is democratic.
Tomorrow, we decide. Brexit party it is.

You want people to vote for a Party with no policies?
Check out their website - nothing, nada, not a single policy, not even about Brexit.

Whilst I understand the statement is a protest against the conservative government who systematically destroys our sector, I would be cautious about casting my vote to the party which has only one target - to remove the UK from the EU in the hardest possible way, without showing a single piece of even framework of their policies. I am a remainer and I think we will be losing out as a sector, when we will leave the EU. EU tenants are excellent in general, this is not only my opinion, but of lots of members on this forum. NB: after 4 years of having Polish family (not a single issue with them, the house was fantastically looked after) they handed over their notice, because they are going back to Poland - having much better prospect there. And this is not an isolated case, EU citizens are leaving in droves and leaving us with empty properties... That should be factored in too. Especially that before the necessary immigration will be brought in, there will be voids in our properties.
How to vote is everyone's choice, but I think we should look at the bigger picture. Voting Conservatives and Labour is absolutely out of question, but I still think the country's interest should be considered as well, and there are other alternatives.

Hi Whiteskifreak.
Unfortunately, there are no other alternatives. All of the other parties are against landlords - the Lib Dems, the Greens, the SNP, Plaid Cymru - they're all out to get us and most have extreme anti-landlord policies to match those of the Tories and Labour.

Even blind hope is better that more of the same!

I have just done it, absolutely nothing on their website, apart from "donate" and a dog photo opportunity, plus of course list of Farage's activities...
As I said - it is everyone's private decision based either or facts, or hope, or both.

No policies [ YET } is better than the Really Really Damaging Tory policies - have you not heard about abolishing Sec 21 ??? and Labour - well they just want to requisition the PRS and provide Our homes for Free Housing.
I'd put my trust in Brexit party before Tories or Labour Any day of the week
( and Especially TOMORROW - if you know what I mean )

Leaving the EU won't stop BRITAIN deciding who and how many Europeans we decide to admit, and lets be fair, we actually need some.
So I don't see leaving the EU as not having Polish tenants, its more the decision-making and sovereignty that Britain wants to reclaim ( as I and many others, see it )

Section 21 could be abolished, why not serve your tenants S21 Notice now, it will be valid for 6 months, so if the S21 is abolished you have already served your tenants a S21 notice prior to its abolition, you can then tell your tenants to go, if the S21 is still in force, then original Notice expires, you may give another S21 Notice, soon afterwards thereby keeping your tenants under a Notice and action taken only when the Government abolishes S21, this way millions of tenants will face homelessness, and the Government will have to reintroduce S21.
I have already given my tenant a S21 Notice already, so should the S21 becomes defunct, I can then take my tenants out as I had served them the s21 notice before its abolition.
