More assaults from TV channels

Just before tuning in to BBC1 to watch yet another “Greedy, rogue, villainous, money-grabbing landlord programme”, I was watching a trailer for next weeks Kyle Files and guess what? It’s about rogue landlords!

I quickly switched channels and on Channel 4 dispatches was just ending. It then showed a trailer for next weeks episode which unbelievably is also going to be about rogue landlords.

When is this continuous abuse of landlords going to stop? I am getting to the point now where I am embarrassed to tell people what I do for a living.

My husband and I work tirelessly to provide 9 households with quality homes. We make ourselves available 7 days a week to respond and attend to any problems and I am very confident that all of our tenants would give us a 5 star rating if asked. I know there are a minority of landlords who give the majority a bad name but there needs to be more stories about the “good guys!” (I guess they don’t make for entertaining tv.)

Please, please , please stop tarring all PRS landlords with the same brush!

What about our Landlords Alliance to make some comments about it? At the moment - whoever is a member of any LLs organisation (NLA, RLA etc) should write to them and ask for some action.
Like Ashleigh I am ashamed to admit that we support our income renting houses...

Just before Christmas last year I came across a couple with two young children who had been living in Travel Lodge hotels in Peterborough, Milton Keynes, Scunthorpe, and lastly, Gainsborough for over a year. They had been issued a S21 notice by their landlord in Peterborough who wanted to sell the house. They were told by WLDC to leave the Travel Lodge in Gainsborough and told to go to another hotel in Retford. They had no transport and no money. My friend had an empty house in Gainsborough and kindly let them stay there so they had a roof over their heads. She contacted me to ask if I could help as she doesn't live locally. I rang WLDC on their behalf and was told they would ring me back, I am still waiting for the call!! I organised some furniture from the salvation army and a friend who does house clearances at no cost to them. I picked them up and took them shopping for essentials, crockery, pots, pans etc, as they had no belongings. I paid for this out of my own pocket and bought some chocolates for the kids for Christmas. My friend who had housed them suggested that I contact the local press to see if they were interested in a good landlord story for a change. They did run a story, with no mention of the help we had given, it concentrated on the broken housing system and the Peterborough landlord making them homeless.
I am absolutely sick of all the negative press we get and have decided to exit the buy to let market as my houses come empty.
