Barnsley Council – Selective Licensing scheme
Lets hope all the local landlords challenge this! Another dysfunctional Council that are way behind in Selective Licensing. Money for nothing, a fee which only burdens and no benefits to a good Landlord.
“We’re proposing to introduce a Selective Licensing Scheme across four key areas of the borough. It would give us greater powers to make sure that private landlords provide good, well managed accommodation by making sure they meet a series of licensing conditions.
We’re proposing to introduce the scheme in the following locations:
- Elsecar – Welland Crescent
- Goldthorpe – Beever Street, Victoria Street, Cross Street, Cooperative Street and Claycliffe Terrace
- Measbrough Dyke – Pindar Street, Sunderland Terrace, Seth Terrace, Osbourne Street, Evelyn Terrace, Ivy Terrace, Burton Terrace, Junction Street and Terrace, Jubliee Terrace, Victor Terrace and Doncaster Road (174-278).
- Wombwell – John St, Mount Terrace and William street, Blythe Street, Main Street, Bond Street, Myrtle Road, Victoria Road, York Street, Frederick Street, Princess Street, Bartholomew Street, Barnsley Road (1-99), West Street, Western Terrace and School Street”

And in four years time when there are absolutely no rental properties to be had in those areas the council will be scratching their idiot heads wondering why and everybody else who knows nothing about PRS will say it’s evidence of ruthless landlords who care not a jot for their tenants.
I swing between despair and hope most days now.

My tenants aren’t allowed to brush their teeth Gary. Fluoride erodes the enamel on the sink. It’s in the tenancy agreement so that makes it OK.
