Replace old combi boiler?

Hello, I’m considering replacing a combi boiler. However, in view of proposed changes in legislation regarding home heating that may (or may not) come into effect in the next few years, is now the time to reconsider what kind of heating system I should replace it with.
I am considering different options such as a similar boiler or a different kind of gas boiler. I have thought about switching to electric.
Do any Property118 readers have any other kind of recommendations?
Would welcome any comments.

I recently changed two old combi gas boilers for two new ones (one in my own home). The new comb gas boilers perform better than the old combi gas boilers. Electricity is more expensive than gas and the cost of changing the heating from gas in these two properties would have been tens of thousands.

Don’t even think about electric,cost alot more to install and alot more to run.
Go for a decent gas boiler with 7/10 year guarantee

Some EPC “inspectors” down grade property band for being all electric. Even in new builds!

Apart from one flat with electric, I’ve always had Vaillant gas boilers, and always will. By the time any legislation comes in, I’ll be out. The most recent new gas system boiler I put in was an Ideal. Cheaper than Vaillant, efficient, easier to operate, and with 7 year warranty.

So look for valiant eco or bosch with long warranty

We manage some flats with electric boilers and they are an absolute pain. Very expensive to repair/maintain with few contractors. Parts can be hard to source.
Stcik with gas.

Despite what the dim wits in Westminster keep promising / threatening. Gas will be with us for years and years to come. We now have Main combi boilers fitted with 10 year warranty , costing around £2200 all in.

It isn’t just that gas boilers are cheaper (although they are). Modern gas combi boilers also use less gas.

A while back I looked at this issue, hoping for a green way out. First stop was heat pumps, ignoring for a moment that they’re expensive, they take up a lot of room, and to me they felt “experimental”, ie they were still having the rough edges knocked off. Then I looked at electric boilers, but they are not really a green option, and they’re expensive to run. So I ended up choosing a Hydrogen ready boiler. The idea being that the current gas distribution infrastructure will be able to transition to part hydrogen – part natural gas, with only a relatively minor adaptation to the gas burner on existing boilers, and manufacturers are already selling gas boilers as being ready to take the mixture.
