Nottingham Council won’t refund my licensing fee

The Nottingham Selective Licensing Fee is £780.00 for 5 years. I paid £460 in October 2018 and was due to pay the final £320.00 in 2021, but after 15 months I sold my property (tenant in huge arrears, UC messed up payments).

The total cost per year for the license is £156.00. I am therefore owed approx £265.00. But, I was told ‘no refund’ will be sent. Can they do this?

It’s really not about the small amount of money, but it’s my refund! Is there anything I can do?

All advice welcome!

Yes. It states licence. Fees are non- refundable. Like all licence fees paid to a council.

AA my initial reaction to your comment was 'why didn't I read the Ts & Cs properly?', but I then remembered that there was no point reading the fine print as I had to get the licence or there would be a huge fine! Oh well!

Wrong - I did not mean it that way. I meant when was racketeering a 2 way street?

Yes that's the case. No refund. Money for nothing. They got your money to now spend on 76 staff for filling in tons of paperwork and sending us and tenant dozens of pages of paper that u don't even read as too much jargon and we ain't a solicitor.
Typical of what I've been telling the Nottingham Council councillors about this refund
They bought in http://www.selectivelicensingtruth.co.uk the same time as Universal Credit came to Nottingham. Clever aren't they.
All I can say is keep writing to the Secretary of state and the ever changing imbecile not got a clue Housing minister's and MCHLG or whatever they called as this time remaining is disgusting.
U pay on Feb 2023 £890 (the new fee) for a 5 year License and u won't get 5 years, u will get 6 I repeat SIX MONTHS. As their rip off tenant tax scheme is for 5 years from Aug 2018 to Aug 2023. Like it or lump it.
Yes, the terms and conditions mean nothing as if we don't accept, we have no License, no home to rent, tenants made homeless. Even though lived there for 15 years perfectly happy. Bye bye tenants u the real end permanent loser. Council has crapped on u cause they thought all Landlords were bad. How wrong they was the Thicko's.
Please spread.
