It appears that the update for 21st July 2021 is the addition of the 'Easy Read' How to Rent Guide. The How to rent: the checklist for renting in England is still dated December 2020.

Indeed you are correct. What is the point in this version unless we are supposed to issue it…or should we now be issuing it in addition to the original?
Come to think of it, I wonder if there are discrepancies between the two, because I’d bet there are…!

Slightly confused. Why is there now two version on the government website, Dec 2020 and the July 2021 Easy Read.
Which is the two are we meant to serve or do we have to give both of them?

How can they update the Dec 2020 version but not change the date on it. That makes no sense. But hay ho, that's the Government for you ... when have they ever made any sense.

I have just checked with the NRLA and they say to continue to issue the December 2020 guide to tenants.
The new update can be issued in addition to December 2020 guide and would be useful to help people who might have difficulty understanding the terminology but it is not a requirement but mearly a guide to help them.

Hi, thank you for clarifying this. I was going to call the NRLA myself for advice but often end up educating them and correcting the advice they give so thought best not to on this occasion as the released document is still hot off the press and the ink has not dried yet !!!

They have updated the statutory document before without changing the date or the revision history.
They just don't seem to understand the legal implications for landlords.

I wouldn't entirely trust what the NRLA advice line says, they are a useful guide on their advice but they never put anything in writing to you for confirmation and they quite often get there advice wrong. Has the wording on the new HTR booklet changed in ANY way? if so then that becomes the new version even if they haven't changed the publication date. Please remember that the Government want you to make mistakes on your paperwork so that any possible eviction can be thrown out of court and so alleviate the homeless problem. That's why they won't be consistent with issue dates and that's why they put issue dates at the bottom of the 2nd page instead of at the back of the document or on the front page where people can clearly see it.

Thanks for that. You are correct, I recollect them doing that in the past. I always download the current version from the website being issuing it which is a ball ache but the only way to make sure you are doing the best you can to comply with the regs.
