HMO – Tribunal Appeals
Has anyone had a successful Tribunal appeal against the seemingly inflexible regulations as regards kitchen layouts or not dealing sympathetically with old houses (1930’s) versus new builds?
I have been told that whereas the present layout would be fine for a single family as regards safety, it is not suitable to be licensed as an HMO, as the cooker is next to the stainless steel sink draining board.
Interested to hear of any Tribunal appeal outcome.

Well my local Council have just inspected a licensed HMO and issued a letter requiring radiator valves be replaced with thermostatic (ie TVRs). I can see this is desirable but hardly a licensing condition.
If that was not enough apparently this work has to be completed by a Gas Safe engineer. Where do they train these idiots?

Totally, i wonder if they have a jar of pointless and useless requirements which they have to pick a number from for each HMO they inspect !
There is no logic and or reason for a number of there requests. I had one where they demanded i put a higher wattage bulb in the corridor. When i pointed out that it was an enegery saving buld which took time to get to full brightness, the reply was, i don’t care please put a higher wattage bulb in there.
Morons !!
