Fergus Wilson was on BBC1 Panorama Monday 18th March at 8:30pm. The program is titled “Britain’s Most Controversial Landlord.”

Get this programme and hold on to your hats as knowing Fergus it is likely to be a Roller Coaster of a ride!

BBC documentary judging the PRS based on the circumstances and personality of one man.

Fergus Wilson’s Comment:

“The BBC is known as the Biased Broadcasting Corporation for very good reason!

Every time Richard Bilton is on a housing programme it is the same old gramophone record of the poor parents with Children with nowhere to go!

It is a subject close to his heart! However, he does the TV audience no good at all by talking up precious time showing tenants forced out and avoiding dealing with the Causation of the Problem!

No time was spent dealing with the prime issue of why are landlords leaving BTL in their hoards due to the punitive tax regimes being introduced for landlords by HMG.

I am slightly different as I am retiring due to old age but for those younger landlords exiting BTL it is because the Government has made it so unattractive.

I ran through the reasons why the Private Sector is no longer investing but it was cut out in favour of Richard Bilton’s same old song!

HMG needs to address just why the PSL is no longer investing.

It is time for Richard Bilton to be thrown on the scrapheap. He is out of time and out of touch!”

Well Tim your words, not mine, although I cant disagree.
So let us say that Mr Wilson loves publicity, the media lime light and his ego searches that 15 minutes of fame.
I m just assuming here, he has no children, grand children and such as to past his empire on to, right?
So what great publicity he d get by giving half a dozen properties to a local housing association, charity or such like. As Fergus is on the record as saying “charity begins at home” and look after our people own first.
After all he’s in his 70s I d say a tad overweight, possibly diabetic and so forth. How can he ever hope to spend £100m in the remainder of his life.
Imagine what joy he’d get from seeing some young local families enjoying the comfort, security and peace of mind.

Let’s not. You don’t know what his reasons are.

Maybe he is seeing first hand the consequences of the government attacks on landlords (cheered on by those who should be protecting the poorest tenants). Maybe he is using his high profile to highlight this short sighted stupidity.
-I don’t know, and neither do you.

    Wrong.

I did not suggest he liked publicity that was another post, I just further endorsed this by stating that if he did, there were far more rewarding ways to gain the public’s attention.

Yes, you are correct I don’t know his reasons for going on Panorama. That is why I asked and sought to have these reasons explained. Guess I shall have to wait til tomorrow now.

Sorry not sure why or what your statement of “those who should be protecting the poorest of tenants” refers to, Monty? I d say you mean the Government yes? Certainly not Mr Wilson, he refuses the low income, HB recipients…. along with those suffering from domestic violence too.

What is it he is hoping to achieve?
Maybe I am missing something, but what is the whole point of the documentary, surely not to vindicate Mr Wilson. In simple English someone explain to me, please.

I don’t see how the BBC would be able to turn Fergus selling his properties into a negative without twisting the truth or appealing to emotions over truth.

28% or 19% (cgt or corp tax) of the uplift will go to the govt who could use that money to buy or rent properties. The properties he sells will not cease to exist but will continue to house approximately the same number of people.

As mentioned previously, the govt doesn’t want private landlords, he’s only doing what they want.

What does that leave? Perhaps jealousy disguised as ‘social conscience’,

“That greedy Mr Wilson made all this money putting a roof over the heads of people”.

Probably at a better standard than the council could,
Probably following the council rules and regulations that the council itself seems exempt from.
Undoubtedly paying taxes on all the rent he received.
Undoubtedly paying taxes on the uplift in value.
I wonder if Panorama will mention that.

I scanned this thread before replying. I’m sorry if I missed this bit of detail but does Fergus Wilson presently hold his property portfolio as an individual, a partnership, or a limited company?

Thank you very much Darren, that makes more sense to me than all the other convoluted suggestions, or anything else written here.
But you and I and all on 118 know that this WILL get twisted and turned. Just the very fact that Fergus wishes to have 6,8 10 (I’ve no idea) of his houses empty as its less of a drag on his profit line, than to rent them to people requiring a HOME. So, in this particular climate of massive shortages, I cant see that resting too well with the Liberals and lefties who run this programme.
With only a few hours to go it will be interesting for sure.
