It’s illegal here, David, but it still goes on here. In the past the authorities didn’t get involved because of a misguided belief that it was a ‘cultural’ practice, rather than sexual and physical (and emotional and psychological) violence against women and girls. I think it would be good if as many people as possible here donated – this kind of thing puts our crap into perspective.

That link didn’t work for me. But this did:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0701x36/inside-out-episode-3
(It is the same excellent RR report as linked to a couple of days ago on the Landlord (sic Tenant) Tax on the “radio interviews” thread)

Martin and Co took a while to come on board, but they have stopped talking up the BTL sector for some time now:

Not sure if anyone has seen this it’s the letter by Omnia to HMRC it’s superb and gives me hope that this can be beaten.
The more you read it the more it’s gets me angry and frustrated that it has even got this far it’s a scandal in my opinion and if it was aimed at the general public there would be an outcry of epic proportions

Hi all.
I am requesting information for something being worked on with regard to the campaign against C24. We would appreciate it if everyone can think carefully about this point and send any comments, ideas or evidence to: [email protected]
‘The financial effects on individual landlords and why this will make their business model non-viable.’

In addition, can people also send any ideas, evidence etc on the following point, also to: [email protected]
‘Any cross border implications, for example, evidence about any landlords who buy in both the UK and Republic of Ireland, or retired landlords now living in Spain or France who still derive an income from buy to lets in the UK? Or any evidence of foreign companies who will now buy rental properties in the UK because they will enjoy a market advantage over UK ‘private’ landlords.’
