I don’t believe that you would (personally) get tax relief on a loan taken out for, say, jewellery or works of art..
You would pay CGT if/when you sold these possessions..
If you charged others to see/use these ‘personal possessions’ you would have to pay INCOME tax on that….
Obviously, it is a different set of rules, if the ‘owner’ is a company-house registered entity. In that case, the Company has a set of accounts, pays corporation tax, and any dividends paid have to be declared (as income) on the recipient’s tax return.
On a related note, you only get PPR relief on your Primary residence – the exemption does not apply to second, or holiday homes.

The HMRC policy paper is headed ‘Restricting finance cost relief for individual landlords’ BUT clause 24 of the Finance Bill refers to ‘Relief for finance costs for residential property businesses’.
The Government is not being consistent in its use of language.

I don’t get this ‘individual’ landlords. Landlords in ltd companies are also individuals… I find it annoying.

And there you go with more crazy comparisons, second homes, works of art etc are not income producing businesses.

Looking for a volunteer who is on Twitter:
I believe someone else tried to approach Sarah Beeny’s people. Can someone else tweet her and ask that she supports the campaign, giving a link to the petition?
@sarahbeeny
If more than one person does it, it’s even better, so people can come back here and confirm they’ve done it? Thanks.
(I’m going to try as well even though I always thought Twitter was for tw*ts! Sorry to the Twitter users here!)

Good progress today with signatures. Now up to 7021. Around 700 have signed today. We have moved up from No. 18 to No. 16 in the e petitions chart. Keep up the good work. Our campaign is gaining momentum.

PS – an art dealers don’t pay CGT, they pay income tax. The closest property based comparable to that would be somebody who flips property.

Hi BTL.
Do you think you could set up a separate thread and cut and paste all your slogans into it?
That way you could also add to it regularly in the comments section – and us lot could leave the comments section alone, unless we also come up with a good slogan. That would be a great resource all in one place?
(I ask because I now want to look back and find a good one to tweet to Sarah Beeny)

Has anyone tweeted Martin Roberts?

As he works for the BBC, he may not be permitted to make comments on campaigns.
Has anyone contacted Martin Lewis?
