How to best evict a tenant not on the tenancy agreement
I rented a property to a single person. Unbeknown to me he let someone live with him for a couple of months. ![]()
Now he has asked that person to leave and they refused to go so my tenant has come to me for help.
What is the best way to go about having that person leave the property?
Thanks

Hi Silvia
Good news!
From what you have said, the person your tenant invited to live with him/her is not a tenant. He/she is a lodger and has very few rights.
Your tenant has asked this person to leave and he/she has refused. Next time this person leaves the property your tenant is perfect entitled to bag up the other person belongings and leave them on the doorstep or deliver them to a friend or relative of the other person.
Your tenant is also entitled to change the locks. Tell him/her this and also tell him that you will need a copy of the keys for the new locks. The cost will obviously be down to your tenant.
If your tenant has any trouble he should call the Police.
Good luck 🙂

Thank you Mark and Adam. I’ll my tenant know. He’s been a good tenant always pays on time and keeps the place spotless. He just made a mistake in judgement. If all else fails then we can call the cops. But will try changing the locks first.
