Angela Rayner tells Shelter: Labour will ban no-fault evictions
Angela Rayner has promised a Labour government will immediately end Section 21.
Ms Rayner claims the Tories “have completely failed a generation of renters” by not passing the Renters (Reform) Bill.
Housing charity Shelter met Ms Rayner in Darlington on the general election campaign trail.
Labour will immediately end no-fault evictions
The Renters (Reform) Bill failed to pass before the general election despite the Labour party claiming they would have supported it.
In the interview, a Shelter spokesperson asks what a Labour government will do to end the housing emergency in England.
In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, Ms Rayner said: “The Tories have completely failed a generation of renters and people who need a home.
“Homelessness has got worse under the Tories. Labour will immediately end no-fault evictions which the Tories promised and never delivered.”
We’ll build more social homes
Ms Rayner also claims a Labour government will build more social homes.
She adds: “We’ll build 1.5 million homes which will include social homes, so we have the homes we need for the future. We’ll push developers in their 106 notices to get the infrastructure and the social housing we need as part of those developments.”

Ending Section 21 will not add more houses to the pool of available houses.
All that ending Section 21 will achieve is to reduce the number of private rentals (increasing holiday lets or owner-occupied numbers). It will ensure bad tenants remain in their homes while potentially better tenants remain in temporary housing.
I’m surprised at how little Shelter (who don’t provide shelter to anyone) understand about the housing crisis (or mass migration crisis as I prefer to call it).

I can’t believe that the main house builders will cow tail it and let the government tell them what to build…. We have an estate near us.. lots of really nice houses and lots of social housing. but I would want to build a house to live there. The troubles have already started and the place looks a tip.

I think Shelter understands the housing crisis better than anyone. Shelter thrives on the housing crisis. No crisis, no donations, No Shelter.

It’s the same with all the ‘anti ism’ organisation, if no one hated anyone else (if they actually do and it isn’t just induced or propaganda), they’d be out of business.

If only they could move away from social engineering and towards the reality of a social support structure.
More social housing does need to be built and right to buy should be scrapped. However these should be basic properties that are serviceable for the point of providing shelter and support not interwoven into higher spec estates. I am sure that that would go against some form of equality or diversity but the main focus should be on the social provision of housing, not concern if there are council estates then they will be worse off than a private estate. That’s a “them” problem that shouldn’t be foisted onto others. To the point though if s21 is removed then what is the mechanism to recover a property in the event of financial distress, sale or even when an estate is distributed, without it being more complex and expensive?

There cannot be enough tactical voters to keep Labour out.
The Conservatives are unelectable and have been since Sunak was she-horned into the role of PM.
I cannot vote Conservative or Labour.

Voting tactically has never been so important.
A labour landslide with an emboldened Angela Rayner in charge of housing would be disasterous.
