Ben Beadle is to be the chief executive of the new National Residential Landlords Association, formed from the merger of the National Landlords Association and the Residential Landlords Association. The NRLA will launch in January 2020.

Ben is currently Director of Operations at Touchstone, part of the Places for People housing group. Previously he was Managing Director of TDS Northern Ireland and Director of Customer Service with the TDS, the Tenancy Deposit Scheme.  He will join NRLA in November.

Announcing the appointment, Alan Ward, RLA chair and Adrian Jeakings, NLA chair said: “Ben has a depth and breadth of knowledge of private renting which will be a tremendous asset to our campaigning and members’ services”

Both chairmen paid tribute to their respective current chief executives, Richard Lambert at NLA and Andrew Dixon at RLA for the dedication to the task and support in the detailed work of bringing the organisations together. Both will leave at the end of the year.

The merger was approved by RLA and NLA members on September 17th.

Hmm TDS seems to have some pretty poor reviews from ll on trustpilot - I am not convinced that that he can be the best spokesman coming from that background.

https://www.housingrights.org.uk/news/what-one-change-would-you-make-private-rented-sector

"If you could make one change to ensure that the private rented sector in NI is Fit for the Future, what would it be?"
"All tenants in rented accommodation, who pay a deposit to a landlord or letting agent, should be afforded the benefits of deposit protection. Currently the legislation is NOT RETROSPECTIVE meaning some tenants may not be protected owing simply to when their deposit is paid. Making sure all deposits are safeguarded means tenants know their money is safe and both sides benefit from a speedy and impartial dispute resolution mechanism in case its needed." Wow

A little more concerning is the re tweets from Shelter, Gen Rent, Crisis, and about some anti landlord legislation. Might well be someone who just takes an active interest in housing rather than supporting those views but I'd be interested to know.

If that is the big thing that is lacking in NI, then PRS there is in much better shape than in England.

So, the ONE change he would make to the whole of the PRS, is to Protect TENANT's deposits !!!
Really inspiring for Landlords ?

Not sure he is the man to fight LL's corner. I am always wondering tenants paid 5weeks rent as deposit need this scheme or that scheme to protect, who is going to protect LL worth more hundred thousand pounds asset when tenants trash the property!

One of the biggest tasks of the CEO of the new enlarged NRLA will be to meld two organisations, both of which have been in existence for many years with their own cultures and ways of doing things, into one united organisation.

That will not be an easy task and will need a very special person. I think Ben is a good choice for that difficult job.

You can appoint administrators to do that job.

What is needed is a serious heavyweight who will tackle head on the anti landlord lies such as "section 21 is the main cause of homelessness". They need to be pointing the finger straight back at the big business charities whose political fundraising wings are causing tenants more harm than good.

And his first job in office should be to sack the weasels from both organisations who got into bed with councils and their landlord licensing scams.

He may then find landlords joining and re-joining to a level where he can truly claim to speak for a majority of landlords.

Does he look like a political heavyweight prepared to fight a corner?
