Will the UK’s largest Landlord Associations Merge later this year?

Property118 has received multiple anonymous tip offs today that the National Landlords Association “NLA” and the Residential Landlords Association “RLA” will merge later this year.

Having once said “I think hell is more likely to freeze over before that ever happens”, I will also be the first to admit that I will be delighted to be proven wrong.

For years I have been saying these organisation need to work together to provide our sector with one unified voice.

If/when the new “National Residential Landlords Association” is formed, Property118 will assist them in every way possible to help them to grow stronger.

What do you think?

Hi Annie

I agree with you.

Far too many people are focus on the negatives in both Associations.

My hope is that these will be kicked into the long grass and they will focus on what landlords actually want them to do.

I can but hope the RLA will but their links with Liverpool and the NLA will stop supporting licensing in areas such as Gt Yarmouth.

Our job is to support them and to be vocal.

I will be joining the new Association and doing exactly that!

I’ve been on the RLA website and voted for the merger. (Let’s hope with a larger membership and more resources they can start to fight back properly now against the onslaught of the PRS).

I think the Associations should have come up with a manifesto for the new Association BEFORE asking their Members to vote.

Will they be pro or anti licencing?

What are their key lobbying issues, S24 for example?

Let's build a list of questions for them to consider ...

Seems to me to be a done deal. They have announced the date when they will form and the process of how it will be run. They appear to be assuming the vote will be in their favour.
I wonder, do both organisations need a majority in favour for it to happen?

When is the ballot because I think it’s only a fifteen day membership minimum to be eligible to vote…it’s possible a group of newcomers opposed to the merger (can’t quite see why), for whatever reason could prevent it.

I suppose If the membership are against, nothing happens but should it go ahead then they’ve provided details and the road-map.

New members cannot vote.
RLA rules do not permit it.
NLA have introduced specific rule to prevent it.

What really annoys me is that NLA produced FAQs to go with the announcement.

How the hell could any questions be asked before the announcement, let alone be asked frequently?

I see now it’s 15 days prior to the announcement, not the vote.

Hello Annie,
I do agree, membership should be adjusted for ad-hoc payment . I have just written to Larry, but my text seem to be lost during my reply 'send' button
