Tenants complain but won’t take action?

Looking through the thousands of posts on this forum, you quickly get the impression that landlords are wicked scoundrels and tenants complain about them constantly.

It’s the same in my world of block management. Long leaseholders complain about high service charges, a lack of timely repairs, soaring insurance premiums and managing agents who charge but do little.

It seems nobody on the ‘customer side’ is happy with the service providers.

You’d think therefore those customers would be keen to see improved standards, greater professionalism, better delivery of services, and cost-effectiveness. But apparently not.

Regulation of Property Agents has been recommended for years – especially when ‘rogues’ hit the media headlines – but Government has failed to implement the official recommendations. That’s why I started an official petition – which you can find here > https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/617995

The disappointing thing is that it’s getting signatures very slowly. The thousands of grumbling customers are not upset enough to click and sign. And the hundreds of professionals I’ve messaged directly, respond with “Yes I’ve signed” … but the signature numbers don’t reflect that feedback. People say yes but don’t do it.

So, dear reader, are you a supporter of regulatory improvement – motivated enough to click and sign?
Or are you happy to let rogues continue unchecked, unpunished and unregulated?

I’ll watch the signature numbers to get the answer.

Bernie

    Reply to Bernie –
Signed and shared with a few others.
Unfortunately I have had awful experiences with block managing agents – over charging, lack of transparency, refusal to supply accounts, charging for works that were either not done or done incompetently this having to have all done again with electrics, fire safety etc….scandalous.
There are bodies to take it to such as PRS? but they are effectively useless and powerless.
They have made my life a living hell due to my attempts at challenging them all of their awful practices and some criminal behaviours, and this is one of the reasons that I am exiting the market and selling up my small portfolio of 6 buy to lets.
Good luck with trying to change things but I do not hold my breath – only 1577 signatures so far!… plus ….
The property market and all the invested groups associated with it is becoming as corrupt as the financial services are now.
    All the best, Nathan

Take at least Right To Manage if not Collective Enfranchisement. Letting and management agents are self servicing in the main. I have a couple if very notable exceptions in Bournemouth.

Take control and drive it through. It is worth it in just the short to medium term, let alone the long term.

I am doing so on three blocks where I own property and 2 more to come it looks like.

I think big issue is the wording of the petition.

Clicking on the petition I don’t really have any indication what I am signing. You say that you want regulation of Property Agents, but what would that actually mean? You may know as someone dealing with them on a daily basis, but how is their non-regulation affecting me, the tenant, negatively?

How will regulation change things? what are the recommended regulations?

If you can word it so that a regular person knows what you want and you may find you have considerably more engagement.
