Letting agents can now access the mediation and conciliation service from TDS Resolution that landlords and tenants already enjoy.
The free service offers an impartial and fair mid-tenancy dispute resolution in England and Wales for tenants and landlords.
TDS’ chief executive, Steve Harriott, said: “TDS Resolution is a key part of our work, enabling landlords and tenants to work with our staff to reach a mutual agreement over in-tenancy disputes and hopefully prevent tenancies from being brought to an end.
“It’s one element of our strategic purpose of trying to make life easier for landlords and tenants.”
Until now the organisation has only taken referrals from either tenants or landlords but TDS member letting agents can also refer potential disputes.
The service will help with disputes over:
The head of resolution operations, Sanam Khan, said: “TDS Resolution is helping to sustain tenancies by providing a resolution and conciliation service that allows parties to reach agreements quickly and easily.
“Through this service, parties can avoid the need to go through costly and lengthy court proceedings, allowing tenancies to continue without interruption.”
She added: “We are delighted to be able to extend our services to our TDS member agents, allowing them to use us to help resolve mid tenancy disputes promptly and efficiently.
“We have a team of experienced staff who can work with landlords and tenants to identify whether a mutually agreed resolution to the issue can be found.”
Mr Harriott says that early resolution is a key element to the tenancy deposit dispute resolution activity and in 2021/22 it resolved 3,902 disputes without the need for formal adjudication – that’s 27% of all cases decided either through ADR or by agreement.
He said: “We have the skills to help landlords and tenants with their in-tenancy disputes, and we hope that letting agents and their landlords and tenants will value this additional support to help make their lives easier.
“This is a great achievement, and we look forward to continuing our work to minimise deposit disputes.”
